How to Organize Your Wardrobe

How to Organize Your Wardrobe

Hello! Today, I have a post written about how I organize my closet and tips and tricks for you to organize yours. Just for your reference, I have both a small closet and a dresser that I use to store my clothing.

Shoes: If you have a closet (no matter what size), a great way to organize your shoes would be to place a bookshelf inside your closet and line up your shoes on the shelves by style and color. Don’t forget to put boot shapers in the boots to preserve the shape! (you can make your own boot shapers out of cardboard)

Jackets/coats: I organize my jackets and coats by folding my lighter jackets up on my closet bookshelf and hanging the heavier coats up. Once again, I organize them by color.

Dresses: The best way to organize your collection of dresses would be to hang them up by color in your closet. By hanging them up based on color, you will always be able to find the dress that you are looking for! Also, hanging them up keeps them from wrinkling as they would if they were folded.

Blouses: I love to keep my shirts in two drawers in my dresser. I fill the top one with grays, blacks, maroons, blues and leopard print and the bottom one with whites, greens, yellows, pinks, oranges and reds. It is so easy when I plan my outfits because if I am looking for a certain shirt, I know exactly where to look.

Sweaters: As I mentioned earlier, I have a rather large bookshelf in my closet that I place my shoes on. My shoes do not take up the whole bookshelf so I also fold my sweaters and organize them on the bookshelf. The sweaters, like most of my wardrobe, are organized by color. No more than 3 sweaters are stacked upon each other.

Pants: Let me start by saying I own less than 5 pairs of pants. So the way I organize my pants may not work for you. I do not separate them by color or material. They all go in the same drawer in the same little stack. To put things into perspective, they take up the same size drawer that my socks do.

Skirts: My skirts are folded in a drawer in my dresser. One side of the drawer is for calf-length and maxi skirts and the other is for mini-skirts.

Tights: Hang your tights up according to color on a hanger in your closet. I have 20+ pairs of tights and this keeps them organized wonderfully. I used to have them in my sock drawer but that was just disastrous! The drawer would barely close and I could never find the tights that I was looking for.

Scarves: Tie your scarves onto a hanger arranged by color in order to conserve the most closet space and to keep your scarves from going all over the place. If you so please, you can buy shower curtain rings, loop them onto a hanger and then hang the scarves from the rings.

Jewelry: I find that the most effective way to organize my jewelry is by utilizing a peg board. My peg board holds all of my necklaces and bracelets as well as a few of my bags and all of my sunglasses.

How do you guys organize your wardrobe?

  1. You have some really good tips here! I really need to go through my closet and organize everything over winter break...I like the idea of hanging up the tights! I had never thought of that before! I have a little drawer that I've been keeping them in for awhile, separate from my socks, and it gets so stuffed that I need to take e whole drawer out just to get to the one pair of tights I want. So maybe having them hung where I can just see all of them would be better!
    One thing that I have discovered saves quite a bit of closet space is an over-the-door shoe rack...it keeps all my shoes organized and off a shelf, all except for my boots.(:

    I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm actually pretty excited to have a chance to organize my room and closet again.(;
