Hello! Meet the most ridiculous recent addition to my wardrobe: this rhinestone "SEXY" choker necklace. I recently spotted it at Ashby and I knew that it had to be mine the second that I laid eyes on it. I'm honestly not sure if I've ever seen a necklace as obnoxious as this one and love its glam-trash appeal. And for less than $15, how could I say "no?"

I wanted the focus of this look to be primarily on the necklace so I paired it with a little black and white polka dot slip dress that wouldn't take the attention away from the choker. I styled a lace-up pair of burnt red heels and yellow aviator shades with the look to keep it from feeling too blah. I emphasized the glamorous appeal of the choker with a sparkling silver purse and lil rhinestone earrings. A golden vintage watch pulled the look together.

A Peek into My Seventies-Inspired Home

Hello! As you may know, I purchased a house in Richmond, Virginia earlier this year. I've been living there for about two and a half months now and let's just say that the house has come a LONG way since I first purchased it. Saying that it was a total mess when I first purchased it would be an understatement; more boxes of junk filled the house than you could possibly dream of, stained carpet floors served as a reminder to keep your shoes on while inside and you could clearly see the years of neglect that the house had suffered in every nook and cranny. I wish I had thought to shoot some "before" photos to share with you all but alas, that notion escaped my mind!

I focused on clearing out all of the junk in the house first (with some help from my parents and now ex-boyfriend, of course- I can't imagine doing it alone!) And let me just say, that was an ordeal in itself; you would not believe how many garbage bags we hauled out of the house. The previous owners not only left trash behind but also unique vintage and antique items so we also hosted an estate sale.

After clearing the house out, the next thing to focus on was the floors and the walls. I selected dreamy seventies hues to paint the walls- think pretty shades of peach, almond yellow and subtle green. The carpet HAD to go so I selected a light faux hardwood floor to be installed. A handyman completed several more projects- several light fixture updates, minor repairs, etc. I scrubbed the place head to toe and then started to focus on decorating the home.

I'm aiming to transform my home into the dreamiest lil seventies home ever to be found in our modern world. I'm feeling very inspired by retro aesthetics and mod styles with a hint of the free-spirited state of mind of the seventies. I've filled the home with almost entirely vintage furniture including the coolest burnt orange love seat, structured floral couch and a variety of eye-catching armchairs. Details such as vintage floral curtains, antique glassware and decorative boho accents add to the charming seventies appeal. An array of plants breathe life into the home while couch cushions from my grandparents' home in the sixties used as floor seating give my home a more personal touch.

I'm far from done with my home's transformation- trust me, my to-do list still runs about a mile long-  but I'm very happy with how far the house has come so far. I recently collaborated with local RVA photographer, Jon Faulconer, for a shoot that highlighted how the style of my home reflects my personal style as you can see above.

Lovely in Leopard Print

Hello! Boy, has it been hot in Richmond the past couple weeks. Luckily, I have a wardrobe full of the cutest lil dresses, like the leopard print one that I'm rocking above, to combat the summer heat. I added this leopard print beaut to my wardrobe early last summer and am so glad that I did. Even though it's been residing in my wardrobe for over a year now, I still find myself constantly reaching for it. I don't think that I'll ever grow tired of it.

For this look, I played around with prints and paired the dress with a pink pair of floral mules. I kept accessories to a minimum- just grabbing a handful of boho rings, my go-to vintage watch, Givenchy shades and a dark green vintage clutch. Effortless looks like this one are a must when the temperatures creep past 90 degrees! How are you all staying stylish in this summer heat?

The Prettiest Lil Romper

Hello! It seems that I've been updating my wardrobe left and right recently with the cutest pieces from Ashby, a local Richmond fashion retailer. But I can't help it; my love for Ashby runs deep. Ashby specializes in buying and selling fashion-forward clothing and accessories. I'm forever editing my wardrobe and often bring the pieces I'm no longer feeling/loving to Ashby. I'm usually given store credit for the items that I bring in and am essentially just swapping out the items I'm not loving for some new-to-me pieces that I do truly love.

I recently discovered this beautiful, airy romper hanging on a rack in Ashby and instantly fell in love. I mean, do you see its versatile light neutral color, metallic accents and effortlessly chic silhouette? Swoon! I've practically been wearing it on repeat throughout the past few weeks. It's absolutely perfect for date night or Sunday brunch with the gals.

I played up the feminine appeal of the romper in this look by styling it with a pretty pair of floral mules and a floral choker. Several other pieces of jewelry including a handful of stylish rings, a pretty initial "T" necklace, a vintage watch and boho dangle earrings added to the style of the look. A statement silver purse, chic sunglasses and boho belt perfected the look.

Hello! I recently teamed up with local RVA photographer, Nicholas Von Thrower, for a second photoshoot in my new home. I purchased the house several months ago and have been on a decorating frenzy since then, trying to create the dreamiest seventies-inspired home. It's coming along well although my home projects to-do list is still about a mile and a half long.

We collaborated with one my best friends, Elissa Rumford, for the shoot as well. We shot several ethereal, vintage looks that reflected the retro style of my home. Keep an eye on my blog for more home photos soon!

Dressing Fashionably on a Budget

Hello! I think a major misconception in regards to fashion is that you have to be wealthy in order to be stylish or well dressed. You simply don't. While being wealthy may make dressing fashionably just a tad bit easier, you can certainly maintain a strong sense of style and fashion on a budget. I mean hey, I do it every day.

I often surprise friends and acquaintances when I tell them how little I truly spend on my wardrobe. I scowl at any item of clothing with a price higher than $30. Y'all I'm majorly thrifty when it comes to dressing myself and hardly ever shop new. I shop second hand as much as possible and try to think outside the box to make the most of my wardrobe. I frequently edit my wardrobe, selling items I no longer wear in order to be able to afford to update my wardrobe with new items and try to see as much potential in my garments as possible. DIYs and thrift stores are my best friends while trying to stay stylish on a dime.

However, I am willing to splurge on shoes because a pair of $200 shoes can often make a $15 dress appear much nicer. Wearing ridiculous $200 shoes with $15 dresses will forever reign supreme as a crucial element of my personal style.

Need more concrete proof that you can dress well on a budget? Well, let's take a look at my #OOTD above then, shall we? I recently thrifted this cute Barbie doll pink vintage dress for just $3 at a local thrift store. I paired it with a trendy pair of pink pompom earrings, pink sunglasses and an adorable ice cream purse. And this purse? You can purchase it from ToSave for just $6 here! I stepped up the style of the dress with a chic pair of nude Jeffrey Campbell heels.

What I'm Loving Right Now: PomPom Earrings

Hello! A couple months ago I began to notice my favorite fashion bloggers and trend setters rocking major pompom earrings. The light-hearted, fun appeal of their earrings piqued my interest and I traced back their trendy baubles to Ban.do. But unfortunately, earrings with a price tag of $75-$120 are just a tad out of my budget (read: so out of my budget that it's almost humorous.) I decided to hop on over to Etsy to see if I could find some similar options that fell a little more into my price range. And I struck gold when I discovered The Gem Co.

The Gem Co. carries a beautiful selection of fashion-forward jewelry and accessories including the cutest statement-making pompom earrings. I immediately added this fun pink pair to my cart as well as a pair of black tassel adorned hoop earrings. And even better yet? I scored this pretty pink pair for just $10. I've been wearing them non-stop the past couple weeks and actually just purchased a couple more pairs from The Gem Co. as well. What can I say? I'm hooked! I'd highly recommend checking The Gem Co. out and treating yourself to a fun new pair of earrings- you deserve it!

The Coolest Aviator Glasses

Hello! The GlassesShop recently sent me this pair of aviator glasses and I think that I may be in love. I typically wear contacts on a daily basis but have somewhat of a love/hate relationship with them. Contacts often irritate and dry my eyes out so it's nice to be able to take a break from my contacts every once in a while with a chic pair of spectacles like these aviator eyeglasses.

These are the GlassesShop's "Dana Aviator" glasses frames and they retail for $39.95 here. I can't get enough of their seventies influence and shape; I love the touch of retro flair that they add to any look. You can definitely expect to spot me sporting these specs again.

The Dreamiest Little Black Dress

Hello! Meet my new favorite dress: this fierce little black and white number. MakeMeChic recently sent me this beauty to feature on my blog and I can't stop obsessing over it. Like seriously. I wore it three days/nights in a row immediately after receiving it. So when I say that I didn't want to take this dress off after trying it on, I truly mean it. I absolutely adore its flattering silhouette, versatile color and of course, its dramatic sleeves. It's such a statement dress but also incredibly versatile at the same time. I'm already dreaming of all of the different ways that I can style it. You can check it out for just $17 here on MakeMeChic's website.

For this look, I wanted to create a subtly sexy yet fashion-forward aesthetic. The silhouette of the dress alone radiates sex appeal but I further emphasized that appeal by styling a black ribbon choker and red-hot lace-up heels with the dress. A glam silver purse and Givenchy sunglasses added to the stylish charm of the look.

Dreaming of The Seventies

Hello! I recently scored this stylish seventies-inspired mini dress for less than $20 at Ashby, a local Richmond fashion retailer, and I practically can't stop wearing it. When I first spotted it at Ashby, I felt its retro psychedelic print and bold colors calling out to me. And upon closer inspection, I fell even more in love with its high neckline, mod silhouette and incredibly soft texture. It fit like a dream when I tried it on and I purchased it almost immediately. And for less than $20? Major score!

I played up its seventies appeal for this look by styling it with a pair of aviator glasses, a golden vintage watch and a pretty pink vintage purse. Baby blue mules and pink pompom earrings updated the look with a hint of trendy flair. A swipe of pink lipstick perfected the look.
