Textural Monochromatic Layers

Textural layers

September 26 2015

Hello! Ugh, I cannot get over how much I love this cream-colored, lace dress. The romantic lace pattern, neutral color and 1970s-inspired bell sleeves of the dress make it absolutely irresistible. I decided to focus on textural layers with this look and stuck to a monochromatic color scheme. The lace of the dress is such a beautiful texture by itself that I figured layering a couple more luxe textured pieces with it would only add to the beauty.

I started layering by slipping on a long, white faux fur vest with the dress. A little over a month ago, I picked this faux fur vest up at Ashby in Richmond for about $30. Even though this is only the second time that I've worn it, I can tell it's going to be one of my fave pieces this season. Just look how wonderful it looks in the outfit above! Besides loving the juxtaposition of the two feminine textures, I fell in love with the way the cream color of the dress and the white color of the dress accentuated each other.

To strengthen the aesthetic that I had created by styling the white faux fur vest and cream-colored lace dress together, I added another slightly different shade of beige and knit texture to the look with this cozy scarf. The combination of the three unique textures created a very rich, luxe appeal.

I kept the rest of the color in the look neutral with a pair of tan, pointy-toed Jeffrey Campbell heels and a couple golden necklaces. A pop of lipstick and a leopard print crossbody bag completed the look.

On an unrelated note, my sister is currently raising money for St. Jude's and plans on shaving her head for the cause this upcoming November. Check out and support her campaign here. Remember, every dollar donated counts!

My New Favorite Thigh-High Socks: GoJane

September 2015

Hello! As of last week, it's officially fall now! And now that it's officially fall, I think it's time to start bringing my thigh-high socks out of hiding in my wardrobe. I'm also on the look-out to update my wardrobe with a few new pairs. In fact, the gray & black pair of thigh-highs (featured above) are a recent addition to my collection. I purchased them on sale at GoJane for only about $6- what a steal! The two-tone color design gives a fresh update to the traditional pair of thigh-high socks; I think that these socks may just take the title of my new favorite thigh-high socks this season.

I wanted to show off my legs so I styled the thigh highs with a pair of teeny, lace-trimmed shorts. I threw on a burgundy sweater over the shorts so that just a peek of the lace of the shorts was visible. I amped the look up with a pair of black heeled booties, stylish tote bag and a couple pieces of golden jewelry.

Anyone as excited as I am to start wearing thigh-high socks and tights again?

Celebrating 900 Posts

September 25, 2015
September 25, 2015

Hello! Can you believe that this post marks my 900th post?? Because I sure can't! I know that I've said it before but I never imagined that my blog would come along this far. When I started my blog a little over five years ago, I didn't have much direction or sense of what my blog would become. I was 14 years old and thought "hey, maybe this is a good way to start working towards the fashion industry."

I'm forever grateful for making that sort of impulse direction when I did. My blog has grown and taken off over the past few years. Through blogging, I've been presented with several incredible, fashion-related opportunities that I don't think I would have stumbled across otherwise. I've interned for a magazine as well as a boutique, been featured in a national magazine and have worked with countless brands and individuals in the fashion industry.

I also think that blogging prompted me to major in fashion merchandising and chase my dreams of a career in the fashion industry. Blogging has provided me with journalism experience and has enabled me to build the skills such as networking that will be crucial when I'm looking for a job in the fashion industry this upcoming summer.

Here's to many more years of blogging!

Hello! I know, I know; it's September and maybe a little too late for swimsuit photos but about a month ago, Nicholas Von Thrower shot a couple of my favorite bathing suits at Texas Beach in Richmond and I couldn't resist the urge to share them with you guys. You might or might not remember but Nicholas has taken photos a couple times for my blog before. He shot last summer and earlier this past summer

Nicholas currently attends school in Virginia for photography. He specializes in women's fashion and the female figure in his photography. Like I've said before, his photography blows me away and I expect to see his work in copies of my favorite publications like Nylon within a few years. Besides taking and editing such wonderful photographs, he also gives incredible direction when shooting. Clearly, Nicholas knows what he is doing and it's always a pleasure working with him. You can check more of his work out on Instagram @flowersdaddy and Flickr /NicholasVon (as a heads up, he features a lot of his NSFW photos on his Flickr).

For the shoot, I donned a black one-piece swimsuit with sheer detailing as well as a vintage Budweiser bikini. There was a distinct retro, understated sexiness to the photos. Red lipstick added a touch more of my personality to the shots.

Yerdle

September 2015
September 2015

Hello! What's one way to brighten up a dreary day? Slipping on a vibrant dress! Bright colors have actually been proven to boost your mood so slip on your brightest frock on a blah day and watch how it affects your mood. For a dreary day earlier this week, I pulled this bold printed dress out of my wardrobe; I love the eclectic print, vibrant colors and unique sleeves of this dress.

I styled the dress with green suede wedges and red lipstick. I wanted to go for a sort of native, boho look so I grabbed a few of my favorite boho pieces of jewelry including a golden coin necklace and green stone bracelet. I received this green stone bracelet from Yerdle a couple of weeks ago. Have you guys heard of Yerdle? Yerdle is somewhat of an online thrift shop/online marketplace. You can sell and list items that you no longer want as well as shop the items that other Yerdle users have listed to sell. The concept of the site immediately roped me in.

When I joined the site about a month ago, I had been given an invite code by my mom and had received free Yerdle dollars and free shipping. I was actually able to buy the stone bracelet and pay nothing for it! You can do the same if you sign up with my invite link; if you create an account HERE, you will receive $45 to spend on Yerdle as well as free shipping. Who could say no to that?? Update your wardrobe with a new-to-you statement bracelet like I did or other piece of jewelry or clothing that suits your taste.

Townhouse R

FPBFF

Hello! This past Friday, my roommate, Bri, and I posed for a couple photos together by our cute little townhouse; our townhouse presented the perfect backdrop for our looks. Like myself, Bri majors in fashion merchandising. And as her look above shows you, her closet is definitely one to covet!

For my look, I pulled out one of my favorite wardrobe staples- this rich, floral dress. The effortlessly breezy fit, luxe colors and mod print tempt me to wear it quite a bit more than any other dress in my wardrobe. I played up the colors in the print of the dress with rich red Jeffrey Campbell heels and a peach-y tote bag. A marble print bracelet and a swipe of lipstick completed the look.

Like myself, Bri pulled out one of her favorite pieces from her wardrobe- this burgundy wrap skirt. She paired it with a cool Free People top and a vintage golden zodiac necklace. She finished her look with a pair of black wedges.

A Peek of Lace

September 2015

Hello! I think I discovered my newest fall wardrobe favorite- this black knit duster cardigan. I purchased it for under $20 at Forever 21 about a month ago and am so happy that I did. The classic color, long shape and versatility of the cardigan make for endless styling options.

For this look, I slipped it on over a gray lace bra and watercolor floral shorts. I buttoned a couple of the buttons but left it open enough to show off a peek of lace and the print of my shorts. I accessorized with a handful of golden necklaces and peach-y tote bag. Nude Jeffrey Campbells polished the look off.

Fall/Winter 2015 Trend Report: Marble Print

Fall/Winter 2015 Trend Report: Marble Print

Hello! What trend has captured my heart this season? Marble print! Traditionally thought of as what our kitchen counters look like, marble print has made a surprising trend impact in the fashion industry this season. Designer brands such as Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga and Charlotte Olympia all feature marble printed pieces in their collections this season.

This trend feels very fresh and new. Although marble print has been done in interior design, it's never really taken the fashion industry by storm-until now. Marble print feels very classic yet artsy and cutting-edge at the same time.

And marble print has begun popping up everywhere. As I sit in my classes, I can't help but notice the marble print laptop and phone cases surrounding me. Small accessories typically lead print trends like this and I believe it's only a matter of time before I step on to campus and am surrounded by marble print tees and leggings. Marble print has already started showing up at fast fashion retailers like Forever 21 and I don't believe it'll be long before all of our favorite retailers will have their shelves stocked with marble printed pieces.

Floral Flares

September 2015

Hello! Throughout the past couple years, I've tended to shy away from pants of any kind- I mean I haven't even owned a pair of blue denim jeans in over a year! However, this fall, pants have captured my heart; I'm falling all over the flare trend.

I've had the bohemian floral flares above for roughly a year now and adore them more and more with every wear. This season, I have also updated my wardrobe with a couple new pairs of boho flares. And I couldn't be any happier about it. No other pants can rival the comfort and style that stretch-y flares offer. It feels like slipping on a pair of leggings but looks like you're stepping out of a Free People catalog. Want to update your wardrobe with a pair of bohemian flares? Check out some other of my flare faves for under $25 here, here, here and here

For this look, I borrowed a burgundy wrap blouse from my roommate, Janelle, to style with the free-spirited pants. The deep color of the blouse accentuates the print of the pants perfectly. I layered a couple golden necklaces with the look and to add a burst of color, threw on a pair of vibrant orange wedges.

Free-Spirited Accessories

September 2015

Hello! Receiving packages in the mail may be my favorite thing in the world and as I ordered quite a few things during the Labor Day sales a couple weeks ago, packages have been coming my way left and right. But what can I say? The Labor Day sales coaxed me in with various discounts and free shipping offers.

When my order from Charlotte Russe arrived this week, I was thrilled. For less than $25, I purchased a bohemian pair of flare pants and several pieces of jewelry. I debuted two of the pieces of jewelry that I received in the look above; I purchased the golden coin necklace for just under $4 and the purple druzy bracelet for just under $4. I've fallen for both pieces; the down-to-earth, bohemian feeling that they emit make them effortlessly versatile in my free-spirited wardrobe. I layered the statement golden coin necklace with a crystal necklace and other small golden necklace to make an even bolder statement.

My jewelry accentuated the bohemian appeal of my paisley-print dress. Although I've had this dress for over a year, I still haven't grown tired of it. The nostalgic paisley print and deep burgundy color are irresistible. Besides dressing this look up with boho jewels, I slipped on a pair of neutral wedges (not seen above) and a swipe of lipstick.

Free People September Lookbook 2015 1

Hello! Oh, Free People, you really know the way to my heart- through a collection of breath-taking, bohemian 1970s-inspired clothing and accessories. Free People has just released their most recent lookbook, Pioneer Spirit and as I browse through the images, I wish I was living in the lookbook. Jacquelyn Jablonski stuns lookbook viewers in subtle prints in neutral colors, luxurious textures like suede and piles of down-to-earth gems and stones.

Can all of these items in the lookbook just magically appear in my wardrobe??? In particular, I'm falling all over the third look. The only thing I can think when looking at the outfit is "wow"; the combination of the paisley print, deep v-neckline, breezy bell sleeves and suede, fringed skirt are my current definition of outfit perfection. Do you guys have a favorite look from this lookbook?

Manayunk StrEAT Food Festival

Manayunk StrEAT Food Festival
Manayunk StrEAT Food Festival

Hello! This past Sunday, I attended Manayunk's StrEAT Food Festival with one of my best friends, Brittany. Countless food trucks lined Main Street, offering a mouth-watering assortment of various foods. Sunday marked my third time attending the festival. Who could say "no" to passing up my own (poor) cooking in exchange for a tasty, inexpensive meal? Especially when that meal comes with experiencing the energy of Manayunk, watching well-dressed people and listening to live music. I love the festival; you can be sure that I'll be at the next one as well!

The weather was slightly chilly so I slipped on a little black bell-sleeve dress. I slipped a pair of green suede wedges on with the dress and accessorized with a stack of golden necklaces and vintage bag. A light lipstick pulled the look together.

Free Spirit

September 8th 2015
September 8th 2015

Hello! Recently, I've been leaning more and more towards a free-spirit aesthetic. Free People and the beginning of autumn have been leading my wardrobe choices the past couple weeks. I've been incorporating a lot of soft neutral colors, 70s silhouettes and boho wedge heels into my looks. And this look featured above is no different.

I started the look with my favorite top- a mustard-colored, bell-sleeve blouse. The rich color, 70s shape, cropped fit and embroidery detail of this blouse draw me back to this top again and again; I have to resist the urge not to wear it multiple times a week. For this look, I decided to show off my legs and pair the billowy top with a pair of watercolor floral shorts and bohemian wedges. I accessorized with a few layered necklaces and a peach-y tote bag.

Hello! Ugh, Free People has just released their September 2015 lookbook and once again, I've fallen in love with the perfection that is Free People. Like usual, the lookbook has a very nostalgic sort of sixties/seventies vibe to it. It very much so reminds me of one of my favorite romantic films, Love Story. The outfits are ideal for grabbing a coffee on campus with a friend or spending the day in class.

Subtle prints, rich textures and a slew of incredible hats dominate the lookbook. Neutral colors as well as rich colors such as burgundy and forest green preside. There's a very cozy, boho mood surrounding the collection. The outfits are absolutely jaw-dropping; they seem to be a celebration of September- the autumnal colors reflect the changing colors of the leaves around us and the layering indicates the cooling weather.

Are you as in love with Free People as I am? Well then be sure to enter their current contest. Now through 9/22, you can enter to win dinner & drinks with Free People in NYC on October 11th. Check out the details of the promotion here; you can be sure that I'll be entering to win!

Statement Tiger Cuff

September 2015
September 2015

Hello! September is fully upon us and yet, the weather outside still feels like it's the middle of August. I can't wait for the later fall days in which I can layer on the sweaters and slip on my favorite pair of thigh highs. It looks like for now I'll have to settle with easy dresses and wedges to stylishly combat the heat.

For this look, I pulled a black and white striped dress out of my wardrobe. I purchased this dress earlier this summer from Ashby and time and time again, I'm so happy that I did. If I'm stuck on deciding what to wear for the day, I'll throw this gem on. The ultra flattering fit and versatility of this dress make it very easy to style.

I added a pop of color to the look with fire-engine red nails and lipstick. I accessorized with a couple golden bracelets including the coolest statement cuff that I also picked up this summer at Ashby. The golden statement cuff features a bold, fierce tiger with piercing green eyes. To emphasize the green eyes of the tiger, I slipped on matching green wedges.

Fall Floral

September 2015
September 2015

Hello! I cannot get over how much I love this rich fall floral dress that I purchased last month from Urban Outfitters. Although this dress cost roughly $60 which is much more than I like to spend on dresses, I think it was one of my best buys for this season. The deep colors, whimsical floral print and breezy shape of the dress are incredibly irresistable. I can't wait for it to get a little bit cooler so I can start layering with this dress.

For a seventies bohemian kind of look, I styled this dress with a killer pair of neutral wedges and a handful of down-to-earth rings and bracelets. I threw my hair up in a messy half bun to complete the boho look.

Faux Fur & Bell Sleeves

Philly Fashion Week Look
Philly Fashion Week Look

Hello! As you all know, this past Friday I attended Philadelphia Fashion Week's haute couture show. The show was incredible from the upbeat atmosphere to well-dressed show-goers to incredible designs strutting down the runway. Well, I already posted covering the street style at the show but never showed you guys what I was wearing Friday evening. And this is it!

For the show, I wanted a look that was glamorous yet relatively simple (after all I would spend most of the night jotting down notes and positioning myself in weird angles to get the best photos I could.) I decided to start the look with a little black dress. However, this little black dress is a step up from most of the other black dresses out there; the bell sleeves of this dress immediately add a hint of bohemian appeal. I added a luxe feeling to the dress with a gorgeous statement necklace, faux fur vest and suede platform heels. Red lipstick, a spiked ring and a green vintage clutch pulled the whole look together.

Philadelphia Fashion Week Haute Couture Show 9/4/15

Hello! This past Friday, I attended Philadelphia Fashion Week's couture show and was absolutely blown away. The organizers of the event sent me a press pass to cover the fashion of the show on my blog. This is yet another opportunity that blogging has presented me with and I'm extremely grateful for. Sitting in the press section Friday night as I jotted down quick notes and snapped hundreds of photos, I truly felt like I was exactly where I belonged. I can't wait to graduate this May and begin working in the fashion industry and Friday night was almost a bit of a taste of what networking and working in the fashion industry will feel like. Anyways, more about the show!

The second that I walked into the Crane Art Center in Philadelphia, the venue that the show was being held in, I could sense the intense energy and anticipation for the show. The couture show kicked off the last night of Philadelphia Fashion Week and fashionable show-goers were eager to see the finale. Show-goers were also dressed to the nines and you can check out their looks in my last blog post

Seven designers showed their lines last night and they all caused my jaw to drop in awe; they all produced such interesting collections. The brands represented at the show were Burning GuitarsAyasa AfiCloset by Christobal, Jenny Lee MaasD Marsh CoutureAutumn Lin and Gordana Gelhausen

Flowing silhouettes, feminine detail and neutral colors like beige and white were key elements of all of the collections.

Burning Guitars. This was a very interesting collection and had an eclectic mix of various prints and colors. I really loved the first dress above; the holographic reptile print spices up a simple silhouette. It's very funky, almost of out this world kind of cool. There were also several incredible suits; they seemed very 70's oriental to me with the patchwork detail and oriental inspired prints.

Ayasa Afi. Sophistication, elegance, femininity. This collection featured a mix of neutral colors, feminine silhouettes and airy textures. These gowns didn't walk down the runway, it was more like they glided and floated down the runway. They reminded of something out of a fairytale.

Closet by Christobal. This collection seemed to be divided into two different lines within itself. On one hand, a series of bright, bold, glowing gowns captured my heart such as the top two looks in this photoset. And then on the other hand, there were the more utilitarian, professional looks that revolved around khaki and beige as well as more workplace friendly silhouettes as well as briefcases.

Jenny Lee Maas. Wow. The second that the first look headed down the runway, I fell in love with this collection. Of course, I enjoyed all the collections last night but Jenny Lee Maas' collection was definitely my favorite.  The use of lace and feather textures, neutral colors, elaborate headpieces and flowing, feminine silhouettes gave the collection a sort of ethnic goddess kind of vibe.

D Marsh Couture. Menswear typically doesn't interest me as much as women's wear does but wow, this collection was phenomenal. The use of primarily all-white looks, classic blazers, French-inspired berets and just a pop of turquoise makes this line incredibly aesthetically interesting. It's very "elite boarding school student meets preppy Parisian messenger boy" and I don't think I could be any more in love with it.

Autumn Lin. This cutting edge collection relied on futuristic detail and surprising edgy silhouettes. Although the designer relied on neutral colors like blacks and creams, this collection feels very new and modern. I'm very impressed with this collection because it almost feels like nothing I've ever seen before yet it blows me away and I think that's exactly what fashion is about.

I'm a huge fan of the first look as well as the last look in this photoset. The glimmering fabric of the first dress feels sort of out of this world (without being an obnoxious galaxy print) like it has surpassed fashion on earth and originates from another planet. As for the last dress, I adore how the dress is glaringly simple yet incredibly complex at the same time thanks to the 3-D detailing.

Gordana Gelhausen. This collection has a goddess sort of vibe to it and I can't help but swoon over the incredible use of airy textures, flowing silhouettes and soft colors. Breathtakingly beautiful. Romantically feminine. Those are just a couple phrases that I would use to describe this line. In particular, the first gown really caught my attention. The use of the nude-colored fabric as well as sheer fabric with white, scrunched up tulle detailing creates an incredibly appealing aesthetic. It sparks curiosity about the dress and I wasn't able to stop staring at it.
