What a Lovely Day for Croquet

Hello! Here are a few more snapshots from last weekend at my lake house. I styled an outfit perfect for a game of croquet. I started with this yellow, retro bikini- it is too hot here in Virginia for much else! I paired it with a denim button down tied around my waist as a skirt, a floppy white summer hat and bold red lips. For me, this is an ideal summer look for a day lounging around outside. Just don't forget the SPF!

Thrifty tip: Think outside of the box. I wore my denim button down as a skirt and was able to create a look that I have never done before. If you are falling into a clothing rut, then try wearing your clothing in a new, creative way. Wear that shirt as a skirt or that maxi skirt as a dress. When you open up your mind to new ideas, the possibilities are endless!

Let's Have a Picnic

Hello! This look is yet another look that I wore while at my lake house. The star print top that I am wearing is actually a dress; a dress that I can't seem to take off- it is just so pretty. I decided to style it with denim shorts to create a look different from my other looks wearing this dress. A pearl collar and oversize sunglasses were added and I was ready for a picnic!

Thrifty tip: Try wearing your favorite dress with shorts over it like I did. It doesn't always look good but is an easy way to create a fresh look from pieces that you already own in your wardrobe.

Woodland Fairy

Hello! I hope that you all had a good weekend. Here are some photos that were taken in the woods and gardens by my lake house. I took a elegant, vintage green dress and paired it with my favorite DIY daisy crown and Steve Madden flatforms for an ethereal look. I love how the lighting in the photos contributes to the ethereal- woodland fairytale vibe.

Sitting in the Ivy

Hello! Today, I wore my ivy print dress with a white floppy sun hat, trendy flatforms and fun heart sunglasses. As I have said many times before, I am in love with this dress. I bought it about one or two years ago at an Urban Outfitters sale (the best kind of sale!) for a mere $5. Before I purchased it, I debated if I would ever wear it because it was slightly big of me. Looking back, I am very glad that I bought the dress. I never tire of this dress! Want to see how I've styled it in the past? Check out my posts HERE, HERE & HERE.

10 Back to School Essentials

Hello! Even though school starts in a little over than a month, it it not to early to start thinking about fall fashion! I have compiled a list of my 10 back to school essentials. I know that everyone has a different sense of style but these are just a few of my basics.

BTS

1. A pair of jeans in a dark rinse. Bootcut, skinny leg, high waisted...whatever floats your boat! I know that I am going to try to find a pair of high waisted skinny jeans.

2. A striped shirt. I cannot stress enough the versatility of striped shirts. Wear them with jeans and adorable earrings for school. Wear them with a skirt and pearls for a night out on the town. Wear them over a button downs for an added dose of cute-ness. Wear them over a dress for a fresh new look. Pretty much wear them everywhere with everything!

3. A cute backpack. Might as well look cute while attending classes!

4. A planner that will keep you organized. Nothing is more important that staying organized senior year of high school (the year that I'm going into) and I need a planner that can keep me on track. College applications, deadline, AP papers...so much to remember!

5. The perfect pair of shoes. Everyone dreams about the perfect pair of shoes. A pair they will wear until the sole wears thin. However, everyone is dreaming about a different pair of shoes. My perfect pair of shoes for this upcoming fall is a pair of glitter loafers. A little out there but totally my style. Yours could be a classic pair of ballet flats or combat boots. Whatever they are, make sure that you buy a pair! You won't regret it. If cost is a problem, check out sites like Go Jane, Urban Og, My Hot Shoes and Target for stylish, affordable shoes.

6. A basic button down. I live in my button downs. Make sure you grab at least one in a color that is essential to your wardrobe. I own a denim button down, wine colored button down (new for BTS!), black button down, light blue button down and white button down and I am constantly wearing them. I also have them in a few different prints when I feel like wearing something a little quirkier than a plain button down.

7. A black belt. This is a classic and you will forever be reaching for it. My black belt broke last spring but I still haven't been able to find an affordable one that I like as much. Suggestions?

8. A pair of black opaque tights. For the days when it is chilly out but you want to don a skirt or dress instead of pants.

9. A LBD (little black dress). No explanation needed.

10. Statement necklace or trendy accessory. Add to a simple outfit to add flair.

Phew, that was a long list! I hope that you all enjoyed it. Are any of those items on your back to school shopping list? Any items that are on your list that I didn't mention? Have fun shopping! :)

Leather & Lace

Hello! Today, I chose to wear my leather shorts for the first time. They were originally pants but were cut shorter so that they would be more wearable for everyday life. I decided to style them with a lace top in order to create the popular leather and lace look. One of the main reasons I like this combination is because I like the juxtaposition of sweet, girly lace with the edgier, tougher leather. You can never go wrong with this classic combination. To make the outfit my own, I added a daisy crown (I am obsessed), some cute heart sunglasses and my lovely flatform sandals (I am obsessed with these also!). On a different note, I would like to welcome all of my new followers! I love my followers and hope that you enjoy my blog.

Mint & Leopard Print

Hello! Today, something very exciting happened: I got my braces off! I was supposed to get them off in the middle of September but an appointment opened up due to a cancellation and I was able to go get them off this morning. I had my braces on for more than three years and I am relieved to have them off. Just in time for senior year too! Anyways, this is what I wore today. I chose to wear my leopard print blouse with a trendy, high-low minty skirt, a simple watch, chic flatforms, a DIY headband and cat eye sunglasses. I love the trendy- retro look that was achieved. I don't think that I could live without this blouse in my wardrobe; it saves me every time I have no idea what to wear. The versatility of this shirt always appeases my appetite for all things stylish.

Strawberry Delight

Hello! Today I wore my cute, strawberry sunglasses sent to me by Giant Vintage Sunglasses. They are so much fun and I decided to try out a few new, fun poses, shown in the photo. I paired the sunglasses with a silky blouse which I tied up in order to make it more summer-y, oxford flats, denim shorts and a bunch of silver and red rings. Such a great look for summer!

Playful Pastels

Hello! As you may have noticed, my sister is posing with me in these photos. I styled both of our outfits from items from my wardrobe. I still haven’t gotten over my craze for pastels and love the look that was produced. My sister is wearing a vintage floppy hat, vintage top (s), thrifted shorts, Calvin Klein sandals and Giant Vintage sunglasses. I am also wearing Giant Vintage sunglasses paired with a Romwe dress, DIY flower crown, DIY floral bag, Steve Madden flatforms and vintage jacket. The mixture of pastels, vintage and airy textures provided for an ethereal, real life fairytale look.

Cat Eye Sunglasses & Leopard Print

Hello! Today, I wore one of my DIY headbands- a leopard print one that ties in a bow. I paired it with a relatively simple outfit consisting of my favorite denim top, black shorts and western boots. I polished the look off with cat eye sunglasses to give a little retro flair to the otherwise plain look.

Dog Days of Summer

Hi! It has been way too hot in RVA this week and I can't stand the hot weather! Anyways, this is what I wore today. It's a relatively simple outfit (notice: no jewelry!) but the thought of layers of clothing or jewelry makes me shudder when it is this hot outside. To keep the sun out of my eyes, I wore a new pair of Giant Vintage Sunglasses. Giant Vintage sent me 11 (yay!) random pairs of sunglasses to wear and while this pair if the most basic, it is also my favorite. I love the slightly oversized shape on this pair of classic sunglasses.
