A Girl and Her Best Friend

Hello! My best friend, Brittany, recently came to visit me in Richmond to celebrate my 22nd birthday. The weekend consisted of brunch, celebratory drinks and a ridiculous amount of thrift shopping. We also managed to squeeze in a quick photoshoot with my friend and local RVA photographer, Elissa Rumford.

Both Brittany and I slipped into a couple of our thrift finds for the photoshoot. I scored this dreamy pink dress for less than $10 and can still hardly believe my luck. It's definitely more difficult to find vintage pieces from the seventies (my favorite decade, of course) so when I do, it always feels like a real treat. Brittany thrifted her cute mini skirt- how nineties chic!

Nineties Queen

Hello! When local Richmond photographer Sandy Swagger Jones reached out to me regarding a collaboration, I immediately hopped on board. Working with fellow RVA creatives reigns supreme as one of my favorite things to do in my free time; there's truly nothing better than surrounding yourself with creative, passionate people that inspire you to be your best. I also enjoy combining my take on fashion with the inspiration and ideas of others to create something truly unique. Sandy suggested taking style cues from the nineties for this shoot and I happily agreed.

For this nineties-inspired look, I pulled a sexy little black dress out of my wardrobe. I love it's flattering, curve-hugging silhouette and edgy appeal. And I mean c'mon, what better way to do the nineties than with an edgy little black dress? I styled a black lace bralette under the dress for an added hint of feminine charm. I played up the nineties flair of the look with a golden pair of platform boots and my rhinestone "SEXY" choker. A silver statement purse and classic aviator glasses pulled the look together.

Don't Call Me Baby

Hello! I've been wearing this rhinestone "SEXY" choker on repeat recently. What can I say? I guess I just love its over-the-top, dramatic appeal. And it's suiting for a Leo, right? For this look, I styled it with a little mustard yellow dress. I wanted to play up the yellow color aesthetic of the look and paired yellow aviator shades and statement yellow pompom earrings with the dress. Simple golden accessories pulled the look together. I swiped on a hint of peachy pink lipstick and called it a look.

Pink on Pink on Pink

Hello! Will my fascination with the color pink ever end? The trendy shade has stuck around much longer than I initially predicted that it would but hey, I'm not complaining. I'm just trying to enjoy it while I can! For this look, I played around with various shades of pink in a whimsical monochromatic fashion. I styled the look around this little pink vintage dress; I can't get enough of its mod silhouette and retro, feminine style.

I slipped on a trendy pair of pink pompom earrings and bold pink shades with the look. I layered on even more pink with a vintage pink purse and a pair of pastel pink heels. A swipe of peachy pink lipstick, my rhinestone SEXY choker and vintage golden watch perfected the look.

Hello! One of my best friends, Taisha Stewart, recently ventured down to visit me in Richmond. We initially met while I was in school at Philadelphia University as we lived together freshman year. She and I quickly bonded over our strong interest in fashion and majors in fashion merchandising and I'm lucky to still call her one of my good friends today.

I'm often inspired by Taisha's unique sense of urban chic street style so I knew that I wanted to shoot together when she came down to visit me. We teamed up with local Richmond photographer, Rachel Dwyer, to capture how our styles may be entirely different but still complement each other's well.

I pulled out one of my favorite dresses for my look: this dramatic little black dress. I love its over-the-top sleeves and flattering silhouette. I styled it with a vintage pair of mod boots and coordinating pink accessories. Taisha also broke out a little black dress but one with a different trendy silhouette and gorgeous floral detailing. She styled it with a pair of white mod booties to coordinate with mine as well as with a men's denim jacket and simple jewelry.

A Monochromatic Vision in Teal

Hello! There's something so refreshing about monochromatic summer looks that I absolutely love. Bold color aesthetics and retro styles influenced the styling behind this monochromatic outfit. I styled the look around one of my favorite vintage dresses in my wardrobe: this teal and white checked vintage beauty. This dress isn't only beautiful but also full of character. I posted about its character earlier on my blog here if you're interested in checking it out.

I accentuated the teal color of the dress with a coordinating pair of pompom earrings and cool cat-eye shades. I love how the retro style and cool blue-green color of the sunglasses reflect and enhance both the retro flair as well as the color of the dress. A bold rhinestone choker necklace, a swipe of peachy pink lipstick and floral mules perfected the look.

Thrift Queen

Hello! I recently went thrifting for the first time in a while and felt like I struck gold with my purchases. I discovered both this chic floral jumpsuit and these elegant nude heels at Diversity Thrift, a local Richmond thrift store. When I spotted this floral jumpsuit, I didn't see a size tag on it but instantly fell in love with it so I knew I had to try it on. To my delight, it fit perfectly. Its flattering silhouette and chic sophistication immediately prompted me to purchase it. And even better yet, I scored it for just $5. These nude heels caught my eyes shortly after I discovered the jumpsuit. I'm usually more drawn to chunky heels but something about the refined elegance of these heels just feels so right for me right now. I slipped them on and knew that I'd be purchasing them as well. You can't beat a pair of Ralph Lauren heels for just $4!

I eagerly wanted to wear both the jumpsuit and the heels after purchasing them so I styled them for a shoot with local Richmond photographer, Rachel Dwyer, the very next day. I styled a look with the pieces that was more refined than most of my looks, more grown-up in a way I suppose. And very appropriate for a day in the office. I played up the sophisticated appeal of the look with simple golden accessories, a vintage Etienne Aigner clutch and a swipe of red lipstick.

Have you all had any good thrift finds recently?

Wet Hot American Summer

Hello! I decided to take a bold style risk with this look by incorporating a piece of vintage lingerie into my styling. I thrifted this vintage bodysuit a few months ago and instantly fell in love with its vibrant red color and feminine lace details. I took fashion cues from Wet Hot American Summer and the seventies in styling the bodysuit.

I wanted to focus on creating a look revolving around patriotic color, subtle sex appeal and classic seventies nostalgia. And pulling out my only pair of denim in my wardrobe to style with the bodysuit was definitely the way to do just that. I purchased this classic pair of high-rise denim a while ago at Ashby and recently updated them with a lil fringe DIY. I love how the DIY instantly refreshed their style and I can't wait to start wearing them more again.

I accentuated my frayed denim with a statement pair of denim platform heels. Their denim texture, wooden platform and chunky silhouette practically scream "seventies" and earn them a special place in my wardrobe as well as my heart. I played up the vibrant red color of the bodysuit with a swipe of red hot lipstick and a vintage red Budweiser bandana worn as a necktie. Mod white sunglasses and a vintage golden watch perfected the Wet Hot American Summer vibes.
