6 Tips for Creating Your Dream Closet

6 Ways to Create Your Dream Closet

Hello! Today, I've teamed up with Compass, a new real estate platform in New York, to bring you six different tips for creating your dream closet. I don't usually participate in many blogging challenges but a challenge revolving around creating a dream closet is right up my alley.

When I'm searching for my dream house or apartment in a few years, you can bet that I'll definitely be including "spacious closet" as one of my must-haves. Compass allows people to find their perfect house based on interests and design features of the house. Compass could definitely come in handy with finding a home with the perfect closet.

Right now, I'm stuck living in a shoebox of a room as I'm still living on campus for my last year of college; no, really, I've never seen a smaller bedroom. While the room is unbelievably tiny, the closet is decent and I live by the following tips to help make it my dream closet:

1. Organize by color. Hanging your clothing by color makes it easier to find what you're looking for.

2. Invest in good quality hangers. Say goodbye to plastic hangers and hangers that you've taken home from the department store. Invest a few more bucks for velvet or wooden hangers. They are 100x worth the slight extra cost.

3. Display your shoes so that you can see them. I love my shoes more than I love most people so of course, I want to be able to see them. I spend more money on shoes than anything else and consider most of my pairs of shoes "my babies." How could I be so cruel as to box them up and hide them? I display them on the shelf and ground space of my closet. By displaying your shoes, you also are more aware of all your different options and have an easier time finding the pair that you're looking for.

4. Keep a mirror on your closet door. Outfits can look so much different on that it's important to have a mirror right by your closet.

5. Make sure your closet isn't overpacked. Browsing through a too tightly packed rod of clothing in your closet can be a nightmare. Ditch the items that you don't wear anymore to free up some space in your closet.

6. Only hang up your favorite items. Save your leggings and work out tees for your dresser. Let your favorite items hang proudly in your well-organized closet.
