Hello! Today I bring you a DIY! It's been months since I posted my last DIY so I figured I would share my most recent DIY: a DIY polka dot crop top. This crop top is bound to become one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe this summer. I am absolutely swooning over the classic polka dot print and fresh, cropped fit. Of course, I find the retro vibe of this top quite appealing also. Anyways, onto the DIY!

Level of difficulty: Easy to medium difficulty. You must be able to hand sew or use a sewing machine.

Supplies: Needle, thread, scissors, pins and an old vintage dress that is ready for a make over

Cost: The cost for this DIY should be very minimal. If you are crafty like me, then you probably already have more than half the supplies ready for use (like the needle, thread, scissors and pins.) The vintage dress that I used for this DIY is one that had been silently moping in my wardrobe for a while because I rarely wore it (too frumpy for my tastes). Originally it cost me $1 at a thrift shop. I would reccommend either thrifting an inexpensive dress for this DIY or using a dress that you already have in your wardrobe that needs an update.

Time: This DIY will take you somewhere between 30 minutes and an hour depending on your DIY/sewing skills.

Steps:

1. Gather materials.
2. Now this is the trickiest step. You need to figure out how cropped you want the top. Mine is pretty cropped because I plan on wearing it with high-rise shorts.
3. Cut the skirt of the dress off, leaving just a cropped top. Be careful not to crop it too short! Remember that you will need an inch or two of fabric for when you hem/ finish the edges of the cropped top.
4. Cut the sleeves of the dress off.
5. Pin the edges of the cropped top under (to get rid of the rough edge) and either hand sew or machine sew them down for a finished appearance.
6. (Optional) Repeat step 5 for the sleeves.
7. Voila! A new cropped top perfect for summer!

In this look, I played up the retro vibe of the top by pairing the cropped top with black high-rise shorts, red lipstick, little white boots and cat eye sunglasses. A great look for keeping cool on a warm, summer day!

Shorts: Vintage Levi's
White shoes: Urban Outfitters
Cat eye sunglasses: c/o Giant Vintage
Red lipstick: Ulta
Polka dot crop top: Vintage/ DIY
