Laced Up

February 2016

Hello! Did the groundhog not seeing his shadow really mean that we're having an early spring? Because it sure feels like it here in Philadelphia! It's been in the mid-fifties all week here so far and the warmer weather is working to melt away all the snow and traces of winter. But I'm definitely not complaining. I can't think of anything better than an early spring and to continue with the warmer weather we've been having. I'm ready to pack away my tights and faux fur coats and pull out flirty spring dresses and wedges.

For this look, I straddled the two seasons by sticking to an all black color palette reminiscent of winter but added a more spring-like aspect to the look by ditching tights/thigh high socks. I styled a black lace-up top with a black circle skirt and black duster cardigan for a basic yet trendy base for my outfit.

Recently, I received this black lace-up top courtesy of Dresslink to show off on my blog. This piece was marked as a "dress" on the website but I have no idea how anyone would be able to rock this as a dress. I ordered a size large but this dress barely covered my butt; if I bent over wearing it, let's just say that would not be good. Otherwise, I'm happy with this piece. I can easily hem it into a top or cropped top and have a feeling I'll be rocking this top a lot in the next couple months. The classic black color and trendy, lace-up detailing make this a versatile wardrobe must-have.

I wanted to play off the trendy vibe of the lace-up top so I styled an olive green bandana neck scarf with it. I'm loving the two trends together and how the bandana directs more attention to the lace-up detailing of the top.

Of course, this look would not have truly been my style without a printed piece incorporated into it so I slipped into a pair of cream-colored, leopard print booties. I accessorized with a golden tiger statement cuff and rad black sunglasses. Red lipstick gave the look the bold pop of color that it needed.
