It's been a few years since I've written anything for Fashion, Trends & More. I stopped blogging for a variety of different reasons. There's a lot of complexity within my reasoning to call it quits back in 2018, really far too much to delve into within a blog post. After blogging for 9 years, I truly thought that I would never give it up. But with the influx of fashion "bloggers" on the internet, the impact of $$$ and sponsorships within the blogging realm, the disappointing ethics of many fashion retailers, the disingenuity of it all... ugh, not something I felt any desire to remain a part of. Fashion blogging changed tremendously from the time that I launched Fashion, Trends & More, it became very commercial instead of very creative and it felt gross to me, it made me feel gross. I didn't want to be associated with the whole fashion blogging community. Being in the spotlight became harder for me; at one point, my serious ex-boyfriend cheated and the girl he cheated on me with me messaged me and told me that she read my blog. How do you process that? A lot of factors pushed me to my blogging retirement; I decided it was just better to move on from Fashion, Trends & More. </p><p>I stopped blogging in June 2018 at the age of 22. I didn't know what I wanted then, I'm 26 and I still don't know what I want now. I've had 7 different jobs in the past 4 years, clearly I'm not sure what I want. My creative passions have always guided me; I launched my first Etsy shop selling handmade goods when I was just in middle school. In the many years since then, I've dipped into photography, styling, modeling, sewing, writing, <a href="https://www.depop.com/toriradday/" target="_blank">reselling vintage fashion</a> and many more creative past times. I feel that utilizing my creativity is my calling. But damn, it's hard being an "artist," or a "creative." The pathway to ~making it~ as an artist isn't clear; and what defines ~making it~ as an artist anyways? </p><p>Anyways, you're probably wondering why I'm here, why I'm writing this post. Well, I've missed writing, I've missed sharing my style and my outfits with a broader audience than <a href="https://www.instagram.com/toriradday/" target="_blank">my Instagram</a> following. I enjoy sharing my perspective, my creative point of view. So, I'm back... kind of. I don't think that Fashion, Trends & More will ever exist as it once did; there will not be daily outfit posts, there will not be sponsorships, there will not be quite as much of my face in your face. I want to keep the name... I mean, after 11 years, "Fashion, Trends & More" feels kind of sentimental. And I certainly will still be sharing fashion but I intend to use Fashion, Trends & More as my creative diary of sorts, sharing either weekly or monthly blog posts. Still figuring it out, kind of like I am with my life... I plan on filling my future posts with casual snapshots of my recent looks, creative advice, what projects I'm working on in my home studio and other snippets from my ~artist~ lifestyle. I've launched my <a href="https://www.toriradday.com/" target="_blank">textile art into a small business</a>, turning secondhand textiles and vintage fabric scraps into beautiful new items such as <a href="https://www.depop.com/products/toriradday-hello-i-made-this-98fe/">patchwork blankets</a> and accent pillows. I don't know exactly where I'm headed, but I'm excited for the future. I can't wait to share more with you all soon! </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEif9-Bopfk9_KB-uWyJN6QUcedFmK7JOUma75_50MnG_7luxGqh6WMDj-uyuXPUpXbxSz0FI-Q6aTtOif35ytqzpZ9DYFwMcMR4q6RMoHvB0hgB25TL6G-CHwi5sQDjEeCeRRc5DrZmV0Rq/s1200/9.22.2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="800" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEif9-Bopfk9_KB-uWyJN6QUcedFmK7JOUma75_50MnG_7luxGqh6WMDj-uyuXPUpXbxSz0FI-Q6aTtOif35ytqzpZ9DYFwMcMR4q6RMoHvB0hgB25TL6G-CHwi5sQDjEeCeRRc5DrZmV0Rq/s16000/9.22.2.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcLFcieAh4CfBmGCtAxsW8Zv-Qy9Oi3qDz-3cnprAYO5Tt1Lq76HRX612Jeh5cr1wlXdahFFnGmL7saIvqj-Xw6ElPAzuF48sJuArarMuABNtJ2ikacVlCObTknZCwWXOGJXcSiiDlMLoZ/s1422/9.22.3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1422" data-original-width="800" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcLFcieAh4CfBmGCtAxsW8Zv-Qy9Oi3qDz-3cnprAYO5Tt1Lq76HRX612Jeh5cr1wlXdahFFnGmL7saIvqj-Xw6ElPAzuF48sJuArarMuABNtJ2ikacVlCObTknZCwWXOGJXcSiiDlMLoZ/s16000/9.22.3.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiapoWYA77g5HC3y86vc1C4PYjrBC3fY1uNbWc3A0v_RzSBTpjZIi0aEXSe3tTT59YWyZN-o3axiyjKAt6GKzI80Y2b3374kZ0lIBdEZIrX_oFMoADnsMhycoLxD-sEFV2ozSr3JYnAD_f3/s1067/9.22.4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="800" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiapoWYA77g5HC3y86vc1C4PYjrBC3fY1uNbWc3A0v_RzSBTpjZIi0aEXSe3tTT59YWyZN-o3axiyjKAt6GKzI80Y2b3374kZ0lIBdEZIrX_oFMoADnsMhycoLxD-sEFV2ozSr3JYnAD_f3/s16000/9.22.4.jpg" /></a></div>Torihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10059595158741147599noreply@blogger.com152tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8559647743940734829.post-85177847610639211992018-06-20T12:23:00.001-07:002019-01-11T16:35:17.543-08:008 Style Suggestions for the 4th of July<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hello! Out of all of the holidays, I'd definitely list the 4th of July as my favorite holiday to dress for- by far. It gives us a reason to play around with patriotic, red-white-and-blue color combinations and also gives me another excuse to refer to <i>Wet Hot American Summer</i> and the 70s for styling inspiration. I have a fondness for vintage fashion- styles from the seventies in particular- so it should come as no surprise that I love to experiment with retro seventies Americana styles. Patriotic red, white and blue fashions trended in the seventies for several reasons; a major reason being our 200th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1976. You can find many gorgeous vintage pieces from the 70s with major Americana appeal that are perfect for wearing on the 4th of July; I recall a red, white and blue zig zag striped dress from the seventies that I thrifted a few years ago in particular. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I enjoy rocking red-white-and-blue aesthetics all year long but I know that not everyone shares my appreciation for the patriotic style. So I decided to round up a list of 8 style suggestions for the 4th of July- these tips will keep you fashionably festive- without feeling tacky- keep reading to check them out: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/125414467@N08/41824346675/in/photostream/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Photo by Nicholas Von Throwerl"><img alt="Photo by Nicholas Von Throwerl" height="1203" src="https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1746/41824346675_10c670d46d_o.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>1. Tie a red, white and blue bandana around your neck.</b> Gotta love this easy, effortless style tip! You could also tie your hair up in the bandana or tie the bandana around your purse. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/125414467@N08/27855211007/in/photostream/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Photo by Diego Bustamante"><img alt="Photo by Diego Bustamante" height="1198" src="https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1742/27855211007_4490b32805_o.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>2. Style a denim dress with red accents. </b>A chambray denim dress makes a great choice for the 4th of July; style it to feel more festive with accessories in red hues. I paired a red belt, purse, sunglasses and bandana with the dress here for a patriotic appeal.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/125414467@N08/28850559498/in/photostream/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Photo by Nicholas Von Throwerl"><img alt="Photo by Nicholas Von Throwerl" height="1203" src="https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1728/28850559498_2bc4fd8b94_o.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>3. Go all-American with a classic pair of blue jeans.</b> You can't go wrong with blue denim! I love deep blue bellbottoms but you could also rock light blue denim shorts or distressed boyfriend jeans. Select a pair in a high-rise style for added retro appeal. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/125414467@N08/27855211107/in/photostream/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Photo by Diego Bustamante"><img alt="Photo by Diego Bustamante" height="534" src="https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1730/27855211107_8ca6a9f072_o.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>4. Swipe on a fierce shade of red lipstick.</b> Easy! I actually really love Wet 'N Wild's lipsticks because they are extremely (!) affordable as well as impressive; the color stays on well, they're easy to apply and they look nice. Most of my lipsticks are from Wet 'N Wild. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/125414467@N08/27855316097/in/dateposted/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Photo by Nicholas Von Throwerl"><img alt="Photo by Nicholas Von Throwerl" height="1203" src="https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1750/27855316097_e5a4259774_o.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>5. Break out a piece of red vintage lingerie.</b> I styled a red-hot, lace trim vintage camisole for this all-American look. A vintage navy nightgown or red bodysuit tucked into a pair of jeans would also work perfectly. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/125414467@N08/27855208647/in/photostream/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Photo by Diego Bustamante"><img alt="Photo by Diego Bustamante" height="1198" src="https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1728/27855208647_0d6c53b970_o.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>6. Wear red sunglasses.</b> This is another easy style tip that will make any look feel more celebratory for the 4th of July. Rock a pair of red sunglasses with your bikini at the pool or with a pair of denim cutoff shorts and a white cropped top for a backyard barbecue. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/125414467@N08/41824346875/in/photostream/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Photo by Nicholas Von Throwerl"><img alt="Photo by Nicholas Von Throwerl" height="1203" src="https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1753/41824346875_a08df2ab9b_o.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>7. Incorporate a pair of star-shaped sunglasses into your look.</b> How fun! How could you turn down the opportunity to rock a pair of playful sunglasses like these?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/125414467@N08/27855208697/in/photostream/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Photo by Diego Bustamante"><img alt="Photo by Diego Bustamante" height="534" src="https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1730/27855208697_6a72935a95_o.jpg" width="800" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>8. Accessorize with pops of red. </b>Voila! 4th of July ready in a matter of minutes. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hello! When it comes to selfies, you could say that I take my fair share- especially when it comes to outfit selfies; in fact, I actually probably take more selfies than the average person does (okay, okay, I definitely take more selfies than the average person does.) So when my roommate, Elissa, introduced me to <a href="https://www.chelfieapp.com/app.html">Chelfie</a>, a social shopping/fashion app, I immediately felt intrigued. An app that provides instant fashion feedback and gives users an easy way to make money? Count me in! I'm a-l-w-a-y-s down for another excuse to share my selfies.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://www.chelfieapp.com/app.html">Chelfie</a> allows users to shop with friends and share mirror selfies privately with friends or publicly with everyone to get instant feedback. I downloaded the app this past weekend and think it's easy (and fun!) to use. The concept behind it is simple: snap a selfie, share it on the app and get feedback from either your friends- or all the other fashionistas on the app. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've already shared a few selfies but I think it's more fun to browse through everyone else's selfies. Sure, you can get instant feedback by sharing your own selfies but you can also get instant inspiration by browsing through everyone else's selfies. It's cool because you swipe through everyone else's selfies- you don't scroll. As opposed to Instagram, it's more like Tinder in the fact that you're presented with a user's #OOTD selfie and you can either swipe left if you don't like it or swipe right if you do. And if you do swipe right, it will be saved to your profile- and you can go back and check it out for inspo again later. It's pretty fun to swipe through everyone's looks- almost like playing a fashion game- and who wouldn't want to be a part of that? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Another cool aspect of the app is that if you like a look you see, you can shop it directly from Chelfie. And if you share a #OOTD selfie that inspires another Chelfie user to make a purchase, you can even earn money from that. Earning money for sharing my outfit selfies???? Count me in!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Have you ever played around with the <a href="https://www.chelfieapp.com/app.html">Chelfie</a> app before? If not, I recommend downloading it & checking it out for yourself <a href="https://www.chelfieapp.com/app.html">here</a>. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
"Let me take a selfie!" If you've ever met me, chances are that you've probably heard me shout this expression more than once. As a Leo, I crave attention and love being in front of the camera. I joke to my friends that I spend most of my free time snapping selfies but that can't possibly be true....right? I've been blogging about fashion for close to eight years now and photographing my personal style in the process for almost as long. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was recently working with a new photographer on a shoot when she mentioned she was impressed by how easily I flow through poses and asked me how long I've been modeling (I guess all my time spent taking selfies pays off??) I quickly responded that I'm not really a model per se but just your average fashion girl. Photographers that I haven't worked with before often react this way when working together, and I'm always flattered. It can be tricky to get good #OOTD photos but I guess after years of doing it, I've picked up some tricks along the way. Like hey ma, I can fool people into thinking that I'm a ~model~ now- how fun! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When I first started blogging about fashion, not everyone photographed their personal style like they do today. In the Instagram world we live in, it seems as though everyone is snapping their own #OOTD photos these days- not just fashion bloggers. However, it can often feel awkward when you first step in front of the camera so I decided to round up a few of my tips for taking your best #OOTD photos, keep reading to check them out: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>1. Practice your ~poses~ in the mirror prior to shooting; practice does make perfect after all!</b> I have many mirrors in my home and you can bet your bottom dollar that I practice my poses in all of those mirrors. Every look is different, and every look photographs differently. By practicing your poses prior to shooting, you'll see what poses make your outfit look the best. You'll also discover your angles. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>2. Create an inspiration board with pose ideas and #OOTD photo set-ups that you like.</b> I save any photos I really like on Instagram to a collection and flip through those photos for inspiration prior to shoots. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>3. Don't be afraid to look a little bit ridiculous. </b>Sometimes the BEST poses feel the silliest! And that's okay. Might as well try! It's important to try to tune out anyone else who may be around- they don't matter anyways so don't give them any thought. Focus on your #OOTD photo, girl! Throw a leg up to the side, rest one of your arms on top of your head, lean dramatically, get creative with your poses. Typically poses that create angles look the best; for example, if you have your hands on your hips or you're ~fake~ putting your hair up with one hand. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>4. Wear sunglasses.</b> Y'all this is my FAVORITE tip on this list and probably also the number one reason I'm not a ~real~ model. Expressing emotion through your eyes in photographs, or "smizing" as Tyra Banks would say, is hard. It's really hard! Hell, it's hard sometimes to even get #ootd photos with your eyes open or not looking super wonky. Even if you've been snapping photos of your outfits for years. Sunglasses will hide your eyes- and make getting good photos SO much easier. You don't have to worry about what your eyes look like in the photo- just your outfit, body and pose. Sunglasses should be your #ootd photo BFF. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>5. Develop a couple "go-to" poses.</b> Come up with a few poses that work for many different outfits and that you can easily move through whenever you're shooting your #ootd photos. It's easy to feel stumped at first but developing your signatures poses will help you feel less and less flustered. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>6. Pose WITH your accessories.</b> Play around with your accessories to come up with new pose ideas; slide your sunglasses just slightly down your nose, hold your purse across your body, slip your hands into your pockets, the options go on and on! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>7. Drop your bottom lip- just slightly.</b> A photographer taught me this tip a few years ago and I still rely on it today. It makes your face look more natural, and less stressed/confused/nervous in photos. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Most importantly, have fun with it! I'm a strong believer that fashion should be fun- and if you're not having fun snapping your #OOTD photos, what's the point? </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hello! As temperatures (and humidity levels!) continue to soar here in Richmond, my free time consists of desperately trying to figure out how to beat the summer heat ~in style.~ Layering is out of the question and I can't even think about anything with a hem past my knees. So what's a fashion girl to do? Get a little creative, I guess. Staying stylish in the midst of the dog days of summer requires a little imagination plus experimentation with texture. (And yes, okay, we may not be in the dog days of summer yet but damn, doesn't it feel like it?) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Playing around with texture is key to having your ~best dressed~ summer yet. Hot, summer days give us the opportunity to have fun with a variety of textures and fabrics that may otherwise not see the light of day outside of the bedroom. You're going to want to reach for lightweight, breathable fabrics and natural textures. Of course, cotton works wonderfully for summertime but you can also play around with silks, chambray and linens. My favorite suggestion for staying cool (with regards to both meanings of the phrase) would be rocking vintage lingerie/nightwear garments as everyday wear. Think silky robes, short slip dresses and bodysuits. You can find these pieces in plentitude at thrift shops for practically pennies. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I recently scored the rich blue robe/nightgown set that I'm wearing above at a local "junk shop" for just $5. $5 for both pieces! I love how the pieces look styled together but I'm also excited to style them separately this summer. I may have gotten a few looks as I strutted down the street in the look but hey- that's par for the course in a day of my life. The pieces do feel very "bedroom" on their own but I styled them to make them feel more appropriate for an everyday look- and even wore the look out on a date later that night. However, styling vintage lingerie as everyday wear can sometimes prove to be a difficult task so I decided to share a few tips to keep in mind when doing so. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1. Consider balance. Think about the vintage piece of lingerie that you're styling. What makes it sexy? Is it really low-cut or so sheer that it's on the verge of showing some nip? Or is it sexy in the fact that it's daringly short? Play up that one ~sexy~ element but play down the rest of the sex appeal of the look. For example, if you're focusing the attention on your chest with a lace camisole, style it with a relaxed pair of boyfriend jeans or modest shorts. You don't want to overdo the sex appeal or the look will just feel trashy. In the look above, I wanted to highlight my long legs so I paired a vintage robe with a short vintage nightgown; the robe provides more coverage up top while the short dress makes my legs look a million miles long. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize. Bedroom pieces will look like bedroom pieces if not accessorized well. And you certainly don't want to show up anywhere looking like you just rolled out of bed with your lover. Think about the vintage lingerie that you're styling as if it were just an article of clothing. What would you normally pair with your favorite blouse? Try styling those accessories with your vintage camisole instead. Adding a stylish purse, a few of your favorite pieces of jewelry and a pair of sunglasses will instantly make the look feel more everyday appropriate. My robe-nightgown combo felt very ~sleepy~ on its own but felt more polished immediately after accessorizing. And be sure to avoid excessive bling unless you're going for a distinctly ~glam trash~ look. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. Be picky about the shoes you select. Shoes matter a lot! Especially when styling vintage lingerie. You want to select shoes that will enhance your look rather than make it feel sloppy, or trashy. I'd suggest veering away from stiletto heels, super high chunky platform heels and anything slipper-like or super casual (like Toms.) Instead, reach for trendy sneakers or strappy sandals like I did for the look above. Again, it's all about balance. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'd never show up to the office in a piece of vintage lingerie but styling these pieces can be fun for looks for date night, photo shoots and thrift shopping with your gals. What do y'all think? Do you ever try to get away with wearing a lace camisole to Sunday brunch or a vintage nightgown to Friday night drinks? </div>

<br />
Hello! Expensive shoes dominate my wardrobe. They have the power to instantly elevate any look. And let's be real, I have a major weakness for statement booties and killer heels. I favor bold footwear choices and am always looking for deals on Jeffrey Campbell shoes in particular. I purchased my first pair of Jeffrey Campbell heels back in August of 2012: a black suede platform pair of heels that remained in my wardrobe for years- until they literally fell apart. I discovered the shoe brand in high school but my 16 year old self couldn't really afford a $150-$250 pair of shoes. Okay, 16 year old Tori couldn't really even THINK about buying a pair of $150-$250 shoes. So I snatched up that black platform pair of Jeffrey Campbells when I found them on sale for less than $60.<br />
<br />
And that began the string of Jeffrey Campbell purchases that define my personal style today. I purchased a rich red leather pair of platform heels on sale shortly after the black pair followed by another pair on sale- beautiful nude heels. And those nude heels actually still sit in my wardrobe today.<br />
<br />
So long story short, I was hooked after my first Jeffrey Campbell purchase but the thought of casually buying such expensive shoes is truly comical given my limited, broke twenty-something budget. However, if there's one thing that I've proved through blogging about fashion, it's that you can dress exceedingly well on a budget- you just have to get a little creative. I shopped shoe sales on Urban Outfitters and Nasty Gal for years after my first Jeffrey Campbell purchase but sometimes even those sales didn't offer me options that I could afford. I'm on a shoestring fashion budget, y'all.<br />
<br />
In 2016, I discovered a Jeffrey Campbell gold mine: <a href="https://poshmark.com/closet/toriradday">Poshmark</a>. Poshmark, an online shopping app, allows users to buy and sell new and gently used clothing, accessories and shoes. And they have an INCREDIBLE selection of Jeffrey Campbell shoes- at great prices. Poshmark makes it easy to score a good deal on Jeffrey Campbells no matter what your style. I have a confession to make: I've actually bought 5 pairs of Jeffrey Campbells on Poshmark this year so far. The cute little orange espadrille heels that I'm wearing above were one of my latest Jeffrey Campbell Poshmark scores; I purchased them for just $25 in gorgeous vintage condition.<br />
<br />
I styled them with a few other vintage pieces for an eye-catching, 70s boho look- a look that cost me less than $40. I purchased the gorgeous, vintage white lace dress for just $5 at a local "junk shop," I thrifted the pink butterfly sunglasses for just $1 and the retro suitcase and orange earrings were a gift to me from my parents. An outfit that cost less than my monthly wifi bill? Now, that's fashion that I support!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hello! If you were to step into the bedroom in my home that I've dedicated specifically to serve as a closet, a variety of vibrant colors would jump out at you almost immediately. Years ago, countless black dresses would have greeted you if you stepped into my wardrobe. I used to favor dark, neutral hues; black was a go-to and only subtle hints of color resided in my wardrobe. For me, wearing color meant wearing a deep olive green top or pale blush pink dress. Far from the eye-catching, vibrant colors that fill my wardrobe today. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For me, fashion revolves around one simple principle: it should be fun- and unapologetically true to yourself. I don't believe in following fashion "rules" and encourage you to write your own style rules. Find your style confidence, embrace it and it will continue to flourish. When you put together a look that you really love, look in the mirror and tell yourself that you look damn good. After all, you always look your best when you're wearing what you really love. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My love for color emerged shortly after I graduated from college- did my aesthetic tastes change or did perhaps a newfound confidence inspire me to embrace my true personal style and thus, also color in fashion? I've incorporated my fondness for color not just in what I wear but also in my lifestyle. Dreamy seventies hues welcome you the second that you step into my home and preside in every room. The bedroom in my home that serves as my "closet" has tangerine orange walls, a built-in bookshelf in a matching hue and a bright pink mod 60's TV table that serves to display an array of colorful sunglasses. I believe that surrounding yourself with vibrant colors- and ones that you really love at that- will inspire happiness and serve to create positive energy in your life. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And when to comes to how to wear color? I suggest that you just go for it. Simple as that. Confidence truly is key here. Try experimenting with different shades to find your favorites hues; for me, I prefer warm colors- think pinks, oranges, yellows and reds. And if it feels overwhelming at first, take baby steps. I'm not suggesting giving up your black dresses but encouraging you to have fun when getting dressed because that's what fashion is all about. And a brick red clutch or peachy orange cat eye sunglasses will always pop much more nicely against a little black dress than dark alternatives will. </div>

Hello! <a href="https://linktr.ee/laretrogirl">LA Retro Girl</a>, a secondhand fashion e-commerce brand, recently sent me a surprise package of vintage clothing and accessories including this red and white printed skirt. I've been loving red and white color combinations lately so I was delighted to pull it out of the box. I immediately started thinking about all of the different ways to style it and knew I wanted to play up its retro all-American vibes for an editorial shoot. Summer fashion from the fifties and late seventies inspired my styling for the look and I drew inspiration from the cult film, <i>Wet Hot American Summer</i>, in particular. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I selected a palette of red, white, blue and yellow hues to give it that patriotic American look. <a href="https://us.shein.com/Scallop-Trim-Halter-Top-p-426923-cat-1779.html">SheIn</a> recently sent me this mustard yellow crop top to incorporate into my summer wardrobe and I love how its cropped silhouette looks with the high-rise silhouette of the skirt. I accessorized with a vintage red purse, blue bandana neck scarf, mod sunglasses and a golden watch. A bold pop of red lipstick and denim platform heels perfected the look. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hello! Think about the last item of clothing or accessory that you bought. Where did you buy it? How much did it cost? How much did it truly cost? How much value has it added to your wardrobe? I advocate shopping secondhand fashion rather than shopping fast fashion and think it's important to stop and ask yourself those questions from time to time as you examine your shopping habits. Shopping fast fashion comes with much higher costs than the prices that you see on the tags. I could go on for and on for days about the evils of fast fashion but I've decided to compile a list of reasons why you should shop secondhand fashion instead: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1. Shopping secondhand fashion is better for the environment. Feel good knowing that you're saving perfectly fine garments and accessories from being thrown into a landfill! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. You can often find more unique pieces when shopping secondhand fashion. Because what's worse than spotting someone rocking the same dress as you? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. You're supporting smaller businesses, local individuals and non-profits when you shop secondhand rather than supporting large corporations. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4. Shopping secondhand fashion will save you $$$. And who doesn't like to save money? Think about how much you could buy at a thrift shop for $50 versus how much you could buy at the mall for $50. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
5. You can typically afford higher-quality secondhand pieces due to affordable thrift store price tags. I've thrifted a Juicy Couture dress for $10, a vintage Christian Dior suit for $15, a Guess bag for $1 and many, many other high-end pieces for practically pennies. And let me tell you- there's no better feeling than rocking a designer piece that you scored secondhand for less than half of the original retail price. Cue "Bad and Boujee."</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
6. Deciding to shop secondhand rather than fast fashion means that you aren't supporting the negative implications of fast fashion. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
7. The rise of e-commerce has made shopping stylish secondhand fashion much easier in the past few years. There are SO many options for where to shop secondhand online nowadays. I typically shop secondhand fashion through Poshmark, Unitiques and Etsy. But I recently discovered a new fave: Swap.com</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://swap.com/">Swap.com</a>, an online consignment and thrift shop, makes shopping secondhand fashion much easier. They have a wide selection of brands, styles and designs to choose from- all at very affordable prices. In collaboration with Swap.com, I received $30 in credit to shop away. And for just $30, I was able to afford two dresses, a crop top and a belt. I scored the floral Jason Wu dress I'm rocking above on Swap.com for just $10 so when I say that you can't beat their prices, you know it's the truth. I also bought the belt I'm wearing above on Swap.com for just $4. $4?! I would definitely recommend checking out <a href="http://swap.com/">Swap.com here</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
8. Authentic vintage styles are ALWAYS better than new retro-inspired copycat designs and you can only shop true vintage garments secondhand. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
9. There's more of a thrill in the hunt of shopping secondhand fashion rather than shopping new. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hello! The journey to discovering your signature personal style and curating your perfect wardrobe can be a long one but well worth it. Fashion constantly changes but style doesn't. I've worked hard on getting my signature sense of style ~just right~ and have built my perfect wardrobe in the process. It's taken a lot of work to get there but it makes getting ready in the mornings much, MUCH easier. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The key to curating your perfect wardrobe? Editing your wardrobe- and often. I go through my wardrobe on a monthly basis (sometimes even more frequently!) to edit it down to MY essentials. It's important to note that everyone's wardrobe "essentials" will be different. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There's nothing that I hate more than those lists of "wardrobe essentials for everyone." You know what lists I mean- the ones that list the most B-O-R-I-N-G garments that everyone "needs." The writers behind these lists act like everyone dresses the same and usually suggest pieces like a white tee shirt, dressy flats, a denim jacket, etc. as wardrobe essentials. Basics shouldn't be your wardrobe essentials (unless that's your style- then you do you.) Please never let anyone tell you what pieces you "need" in your wardrobe. Like nah, boo, wardrobe essentials differ from person to person. Editing and curating your perfect wardrobe will help you discover which pieces are YOUR wardrobe essentials. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Schedule a couple of hours to go through your wardrobe and delve into your own journey to your perfect wardrobe. Do your laundry before you start editing so you can see truly everything in your wardrobe. If you haven't gone through your wardrobe in a while, this initial edit will be a lot of work. A lot of work but work damn well worth it. You're going to want to look at every single item in your wardrobe. If this seems intimidating at first because you haven't gone through your wardrobe in a while, try breaking it up into categories and work on those categories at different times. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As you're going through the items in your wardrobe, there are a few questions to ask yourself: when did I last wear this? am I excited to wear this again? does it fit? do I like how I look/feel when I wear it? It's wise to try on items that you aren't sure about either. Put items that you haven't worn in months, aren't excited to wear again or items that don't fit to the side. Try taking them to a local consignment shop, selling them online or donating them to a thrift shop. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's great to be practical but you should LOVE every single item in your wardrobe. Don't hold on to items solely because you feel like you ~need~ it in your wardrobe as an essential. If you don't love it, it's not a wardrobe essential for you. Get rid of those pieces that you don't love and replace them with garments that make you feel like a million bucks every time you wear them. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You'll probably notice patterns as you edit your wardrobe. Maybe you're getting rid of a lot of a specific color or style of garment. Take note of this and buy less like those pieces. You'll probably also notice that you have more of a certain style, color or print in your wardrobe. Those pieces are YOUR wardrobe essentials. Editing your wardrobe frequently enough will allow you to create your perfect wardrobe. And do you know how much easier it is to pick out an outfit in the morning when you're in love with your own wardrobe? Much, much easier! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My wardrobe essentials include sky-high platform heels, printed mini dresses, garments in pretty pink hues and obnoxious sunglasses. They might not work as essentials for a lot of people but hey, they work for me. What are some of your wardrobe essentials? </div>

<br />
Hello! I recently teamed up with <a href="https://www.instagram.com/elissarummy/">Elissa Rumford</a> and <a href="https://www.instagram.com/kate_division/">Katelynn Adams</a> to work on a collaborative editorial photoshoot for Spring/Summer '18. Elissa took charge of artistic direction for the shoot, selected a boho ethereal concept, created a mood board for inspiration, modeled and photographed the shoot. She drew inspiration from vintage style aesthetics as well as film photographs. I styled the fashion for the shoot and modeled in it as well. I wanted the colors in the looks to feel very ethereal so we opted for pieces in white and cream colored hues. I kept accessories to a minimum. Kate modeled in the shoot as well as photographed it.<br />
<br />
The dreamy boho feel of the editorial evokes a strong sense of nostalgia and yearning for decades past. The photos almost feel like memories of hazy seventies summer days. Fashion continually impresses me with how it allows the wearer, or viewer, to transport to a different time and space; I think that's one of the reasons that styling fascinates me so.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hello! When Gabi Day of <a href="https://mybrightbody.com/">Bright Body</a> recently reached out to me regarding a collaboration, I immediately hopped on board. I've been following <a href="https://www.instagram.com/mybrightbody/">Bright Body on social media</a> for a while now and I've always been intrigued by their organic hair and skincare products. Day founded Bright Body right here in Richmond, Virginia and we met up at a local coffee shop in Scott's Addition to chat about beauty and the benefits of Bright Body products. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At the end of our meeting, Day handed me a bag full of Bright Body products to my delight. She included the <a href="https://mybrightbody.com/collections/all/products/gentle-toner">gentle toner</a>, <a href="https://mybrightbody.com/products/salt-texturizing-hair-spray">texturizing sea salt spray</a>, <a href="https://mybrightbody.com/products/sample-curly-hair-cleansing-kit">curly hair sample cleansing kit</a> and <a href="https://mybrightbody.com/collections/all/products/moisture-locking-curl-spray">moisture locking curl spray</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've been using the products on a daily basis throughout the past few weeks and am very pleased with their quality and efficiency. I would definitely list the <a href="https://mybrightbody.com/collections/all/products/gentle-toner">Bright Body gentle toner</a> and <a href="https://mybrightbody.com/products/salt-texturizing-hair-spray">texturizing sea salt spray</a> as my two favorite products that I tried out from the line. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Skincare matters a lot to me (trust me- you should see my medicine cabinet full of masks, serums and moisturizers) but surprisingly, I've never actually tried out a toner before. I'm naturally gifted with pretty good skin but I'm happy with the results of using the toner. It's designed for sensitive skin to "clean and shrink pores without stripping the skin or relying on harsh alcohols." Check it out for yourself for <a href="https://mybrightbody.com/collections/all/products/gentle-toner">$18 here</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I like the <a href="https://mybrightbody.com/products/salt-texturizing-hair-spray">sea salt spray</a> the most out of all of the products I tested. Generally speaking, I don't do much to my hair; I haven't used heat on my hair in about two years and prefer using few hair products. I used to use a milk conditioning spray but after swapping it out for Bright Body's sea salt spray, I don't think I'll go back to it. Because let me just tell you, I am H-O-O-K-E-D on the sea salt spray. It gives your hair hold and texture- just what my curls need. I spray some of it in my hair after showering, let the curls air dry and I'm good to go. I know that I'll be buying more of the product when my bottle of it runs out and I'd suggest trying it out for yourself as well. A sea salt spray IS a summer hair essential, am I right? And for just $14, it's pretty affordable as well. You can check it out <a href="https://mybrightbody.com/products/salt-texturizing-hair-spray">here</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have mixed feelings towards the <a href="https://mybrightbody.com/products/sample-curly-hair-cleansing-kit">curly hair sample cleansing kit</a> (~the shampoo.) After using it for several weeks, my hair does appear "happier." My curls look healthier and more defined but it did take a while for my hair to get used to the product. I definitely felt frustrated with my hair in the first couple of weeks using it; my curls felt greasy and weighed down. However, my curls did adjust to it and now seem more lively than ever. You can check it out for yourself for <a href="https://mybrightbody.com/products/sample-curly-hair-cleansing-kit">$25 here</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you're interested in experiencing the benefits of all natural beauty products for yourself, I would recommend checking out Bright Body. You can shop the <a href="https://mybrightbody.com/">products online here</a> or if you live in Richmond, you can find Bright Body products at Nimbus Massage, Hanover Yoga & Wellness, Union Market, Little House Green Grocery, Pelvic Health Systems, Luna Aesthetics & Spa and Belle & Beau Company. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hello! A couple of months ago, I attended a shopping event for <a href="https://www.shoptailor.com/">Shop Tailor</a>, an online fashion retailer based in Richmond. I attended a similar shopping event last year and met <a href="https://www.instagram.com/tailored.blog/">Taylor Pitera</a>, Shop Tailor's owner. Taylor actually lives in the same neighborhood as me- how cool, right?! I was stoked when she invited me to the event at her home and immediately RSVP'd yes. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I grabbed my roommate, Elissa, to go to it with me and we had a blast. <a href="https://www.instagram.com/tailored.blog/">Taylor</a> provided snacks, beverages and the opportunity to shop (and try on!) <a href="https://www.shoptailor.com/">Shop Tailor clothing and accessories</a>. She has the prettiest "shopping" room set up in her home with carefully curated racks of clothing, plush carpet, a gorgeous light fixture and even a spot to try pieces on. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I browsed through the racks and selected a couple of items to try on including this pretty paisley number. Its vibrant colors, retro psychedelic print and effortless silhouette all called out to me. I slipped it on and knew that it had to be mine. And boy am I glad that I purchased it! It's such an easy dress to style and I've been wearing it practically every week. It works surprisingly well as a transitional piece from winter to spring due to its simple silhouette; I've been layering turtlenecks underneath it, sweaters over it and even dresses underneath of it. I have a feeling that it'll be a favorite in my wardrobe for months to come. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I wanted to play up its pretty seventies appeal for this look so I paired it with a pair of platform denim heels, a vintage basket bag and boho jewelry. I tied a purple paisley scarf around the bag to play up the print of the dress. A trendy pair of sunglasses perfected the look. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hello! When it comes to fashion, I find color to be a major source of inspiration. Strong color aesthetics draw me in time and time again. Maybe it's something about the powerful role that color plays in fashion? Color obviously holds visual appeal but color also possesses psychological properties that affect mood and emotion. I try to harness those powerful properties while styling to create looks that aren't only pretty but that also evoke a certain mood and create some sort of feeling. I enjoy styling looks that feel like they stepped out of the seventies so I often find my fashion inspiration in color palettes from years past. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I enjoy styling monochromatic looks in particular; there's just something so visually strong about an outfit in entirely one color. I tend to favor warmer color palettes- think shades of pink, orange, peach, etc. These dreamy hues create a feeling of warmth and happiness; they have a distinct retro appeal to them as well. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Ethereal orange and pink hues as well as vintage influence played an important role in the styling of the look that I'm rocking in the photos above. I wanted to go for a sort of "seventies orange creamsicle dreams" editorial vibe so I got to work on playing around with color. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I pulled a gorgeous vintage orange dress out of my wardrobe to style the look around; its eye-catching color and retro style perfectly fit my concept for the look. I styled it with a pale pink pair of heels, peachy keen sunglasses and a woven basket bag with a pink scarf tied around the handle. A couple pearl necklaces and golden jewelry added to the sparkly dreaminess to the look. I wanted to keep the look very light, airy and ethereal (almost like floating on a dream) so I avoided dark colors. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Do you like to experiment with color in fashion? Is there a certain color that you're drawn to in particular? Let me know in the comments! </div>

<br />
Hello! I've written about it before and I know that I'll write about it again but the notion that fashion can't be affordable simply isn't true. I put together all of my ~looks~ on a shoestring budget and you can do the same thing yourself. Fashion does not have to be expensive by any means; I highly suggest shopping secondhand over buying new pieces. There are SO many different reasons why it makes more sense to shop used rather than new. Buying secondhand pieces rather than new pieces is better for your wallet as well as for the environment. I highly support the "slow fashion" movement and shopping secondhand is a key element of the movement.<br />
<br />
Today, I want to show y'all how I style my ~looks~ on a budget- and how you can do the same! I usually splurge a little bit on shoes (because damn, expensive shoes are worth it!) but with the exception of shoes, almost all of my outfits cost me $50 or less. I fill my wardrobe with pretty $5 thrifted dresses, affordable trendy jewelry and inexpensive vintage purses. The main key to staying stylish on a budget involves thrifting- and a lot of it. You can also find great deals on secondhand fashion on Poshmark, Unitiques and Swap.com<br />
<br />
To show you just exactly how I style my looks on a dime, I'm going to break down the costs of each item in the outfit that I'm wearing above. Would you believe that I put it together for just $50?! -even including shoes in the cost! Okay, so here goes the break down:<br />
<br />
Black and white floral midi skirt: thrifted for just $5 recently at Diversity Thrift<br />
Bubblegum pink top: thrifted for just $2 at Fantastic Thrift<br />
Pink heels: these BRAND NEW Jefrey Campbells only cost me $30 on Poshmark<br />
White beaded purse: thrifted for $3 at a thrift shop in the West End<br />
Light pink sunglasses: purchased for $6 at Rumors<br />
Pink earrings & rings: gifted from my parents<br />
Pink scrunchie: $4 on Etsy<br />
<br />
Total cost: $50<br />
<br />
You can't beat that, am I right?<br />
<br />
Like I mentioned earlier, shopping secondhand, and thrifting in particular, is what allows me to dress well on a tight budget. When it comes to thrifting, I find that it's best to keep an open mind. I'm definitely guilty of rushing straight to the rack of the dresses when I enter a thrift store and often only look at dresses. But you truly never know what you're going to find! It can be easy to miss out on a true gem while thrifting. So instead of searching for a specific style or garment, I urge you to just look, see what catches your eye and be open to possibility. For example, you may find a gorgeous vintage fur coat for just $5 in the dead heat of the summer but you may have missed it if you didn't check out the rack of coats. I also encourage you to keep an open-mind when it comes to the styling of vintage pieces; for example, I enjoy incorporating vintage lingerie tops and slips into my everyday ~looks.~<br />

<br />
Hello! A few weeks ago, I reached out to <a href="https://www.instagram.com/elinayuuka/">Elina Oehlert</a>, a VCUArts student who enjoys makeup as well as painting, through Instagram to discuss collaborating on a shoot. She immediately hopped on board and we began talking concepts. We knew that we wanted to do something more editorial and I suggested something retro-inspired. Elina found a gorgeous seventies retro wall paper design online and we decided to draw inspiration from the pattern for our collaborative shoot. The print encompassed several different floral designs in an interesting geometric arrangement; shades of burnt orange, red and mustard yellow really solidified its retro seventies appeal.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.instagram.com/elinayuuka/">Elina</a> took charge of our makeup for the shoot, painting a couple flowers from the inspiration pattern on both of our cheeks. She also worked her magic with eyeshadow on our eyelids, blending away with warm orange and gold hues. Her makeup skills blew me away and I hope to work with her again in the future on more shoots.<br />
<br />
We wanted to focus on color as a key element of the shoot so we played up the warm tones of the makeup with clothing and accessories in orange, red and yellow hues. I grabbed a pair of red, just slightly flared pants from my wardrobe to style my look around. I love the powerful statement that these pants make; I feel like they give off a definite air of strength. I paired them with a pretty, vintage orange blouse. The colorful combination of the pants and the top definitely created an eye-catching statement on its own but I decided to play around with color a little bit more while accessorizing. Burnt red heels, a seventies silky scarf, mod earrings, a red purse and fun shades all added to the retro editorial mood of the look.<br />
<br />
Elina started her look with an effortless pair of tan corduroys. I suggested styling an orange top with the pants and she also slipped into a cool pair of flatform sandals. She added a little bit of a cool mod appeal to the look with a circular belt and a circular beaded necklace. I accessorized her look with some fun shades, a red vintage purse and orange vintage earrings.<br />
<br />
I reached out to local Richmond photographer, Rachel Dwyer, to shoot the collaborative editorial. I've worked with Rachel countless times in the past and am always impressed by the quality of her work. She has an incredible eye for light, angles and capturing looks on camera in a pleasantly unexpected way. We shot around Carytown and in the Fan and I love how the photos from the shoot turned out. I usually shoot more ~everyday~ looks but it was fun playing around with something slightly more editorial. Stay tuned for more editorial shoots in the future!<br />

<br />
Hello! Happy April! The weather finally seems to be warming up here in Virginia and I'm stoked to begin transitioning my wardrobe from winter to spring. Who would have thought we would have to wait until April to start rocking pieces from our spring wardrobes? I certainly didn't! However, it's not time to pack up all of your cozy sweaters quite yet. This transitional winter to spring weather marks a difficult period of time for styling ~looks~. Some days you'll be grabbing your favorite winter cardi as you walk out the door and some days you'll be out and about with bare legs and bare arms. So what's a girl to do? I've given it some thought and put together a list of my five best tips for transitioning your wardrobe from winter to spring:<br />
<br />
<b>1. Layer socks underneath your open-toe heels and sandals.</b> Want to break out your favorite pair of sandals but it's still a little nippy outside? Don't be afraid to break fashion rules and style a cute pair of socks with open-toe heels or sandals like I did with my star printed socks and black velvet heels above. <br />
<br />
<b>2. Select dresses and skirts in midi lengths.</b> Need help styling your midi skirt? I've got you covered <a href="http://www.fashiontrendsmore.com/2018/02/how-to-rock-vintage-maxi-or-midi-skirt.html">here</a>.<br />
<br />
<b>3. Throw a fur collar on with a spring mini dress. </b>Add warmth to a little spring dress with something cozy but not ~too~ cozy such as a fur collar like I'm wearing above or a knit shawl. You'll be happy you did when a breeze sweeps past you.<br />
<br />
<b>4. Keep your favorite turtleneck out as a chic layering piece.</b> Style it underneath your favorite spaghetti strap dress for just a touch more warmth.<br />
<br />
<b>5. Start with more layers in the morning. </b>You can always take off layers off as the day progresses and the weather warms up.<br />
<br />
What do y'all think? Do you have any more tips for transitioning your wardrobe from winter to spring?<br />

Last week marked the official beginning of the spring season and I can't wait to ditch my winter wardrobe. Nothing will be sweeter than the moment that I pack away my heavy winter coats, my one surviving pair of tights from the season and chunky knits. It's still a bit cold here in Virginia but weather forecasts appear promising. And thank goodness, right?! Because I'm ready to show a little leg and break out the crop tops- who's with me? Keep reading to check out 8 outfit suggestions for this spring:<br />

<b>3. A midi skirt + fitted turtleneck top.</b> You can style this sophisticated combination many different ways to match your personal taste.<br />

<div style="position: relative;">

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<b>4. A boho romper + vintage shawl. </b>Go for a boho look with a romper in neutral colors and a vintage shawl or poncho.<br />
<br />
Why it's a great combo: Layers are crucial for transitioning your wardrobe from winter to spring and a poncho/shawl works perfectly for this.<br />
<br />
Where to wear it: for running errands, for going on a date with your significant other<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="margin: 0 auto; width: 800px;">
<div style="position: relative;">
<a href="https://www.polyvore.com/spring_outfit_idea/set?.embedder=2304411&.svc=copypaste&id=236700780" target="_blank"><img alt="Spring Outfit Idea #5" border="0" height="560" src="https://cfc.polyvoreimg.com/cgi/img-set/.sig/E7QyY457vWRNYnJhDlm0Ng/cid/236700780/id/_huF4fsp6BGR3OHYWc0rKw/size/c800x560.jpg" title="Spring Outfit Idea #5" width="800" /></a></div>
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<b>5. A denim mini skirt + striped top.</b> Play up the retro vibes with a denim mini skirt and a striped top. Bonus points for yellow aviator sunglasses.<br />
<br />
Why it's a great combo: It feels playful, fun and fresh- a winning aesthetic for spring.<br />
<br />
Where to wear it: shopping with your bestie, for a local festival/market event<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="margin: 0 auto; width: 800px;">
<div style="position: relative;">
<a href="https://www.polyvore.com/spring_outfit_idea/set?.embedder=2304411&.svc=copypaste&id=236700997" target="_blank"><img alt="Spring Outfit Idea #6" border="0" height="634" src="https://cfc.polyvoreimg.com/cgi/img-set/.sig/KLf1FeG7TQfAHAW6jN4MEA/cid/236700997/id/1hnYs-wp6BGMVy1zV2y1RQ/size/c800x634.jpg" title="Spring Outfit Idea #6" width="800" /></a></div>
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<b>6. A statement jumpsuit. </b>Turn heads in a stunning jumpsuit. Go big or go home when it comes to the color, print or silhouette of the jumpsuit- but not all at once.<br />
<br />
Why it's a great combo: It's perfect for making a statement.<br />
<br />
Where to wear it: out on the town<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="margin: 0 auto; width: 800px;">
<div style="position: relative;">
<a href="https://www.polyvore.com/spring_outfit_idea/set?.embedder=2304411&.svc=copypaste&id=236701326" target="_blank"><img alt="Spring Outfit Idea #7" border="0" height="680" src="https://cfc.polyvoreimg.com/cgi/img-set/.sig/5j9oneTaIiLMUewsNt69g/cid/236701326/id/HMM68v0p6BGwFJCgoDbrPw/size/c800x680.jpg" title="Spring Outfit Idea #7" width="800" /></a></div>
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<b>7. Distressed denim jeans + a denim jacket.</b> Because denim on denim will always rule. Distressing gives it a little extra edge.<br />
<br />
Why it's a great combo: It's effortless yet eye-catching<br />
<br />
Where to wear it: for running errands, hungover brunch with your girls<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="margin: 0 auto; width: 800px;">
<div style="position: relative;">
<a href="https://www.polyvore.com/spring_outfit_idea/set?.embedder=2304411&.svc=copypaste&id=236701539" target="_blank"><img alt="Spring Outfit Idea #8" border="0" height="691" src="https://cfc.polyvoreimg.com/cgi/img-set/.sig/PgE4s62K5EXto881kpfzg/cid/236701539/id/_MbUwv4p6BGCdsplWFI-UA/size/c800x691.jpg" title="Spring Outfit Idea #8" width="800" /></a></div>
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<b>8. A lightweight turtleneck + spaghetti strap dress.</b> Make a fashion-forward statement in this stylish look.<br />
<br />
Why it's a great combo: You get to wear that summer dress that you've been dying to wear but it's still not ~weather appropriate~ and you're tired of wearing it with the same denim jacket<br />
<br />
Where to wear it: for work or girl time with your best friend<br />
<br />

Hello! Alex, the CEO of <a href="https://unitiques.com/market">Unitiques</a>, texted me a photo of this yellow and black abstract houndstooth print mini skirt a few weeks ago to ask my opinion on it and I immediately fell in love with the <i>Clueless</i> vibes of the skirt. This skirt is just one of the many gorgeous pieces offered on Unitiques, an online fashion marketplace. Unitiques offers the opportunity to both buy and sell new and gently used clothing and accessories. When Alex offered to send over the mini skirt as part of my collaboration with <a href="https://unitiques.com/market">Unitiques</a>, I jumped on board right away.<br />
<br />
I wanted to play up the <i>Clueless</i> vibes of the mini skirt so I took cues from the nineties film; for me, crop tops, classic preppy prints and miniskirts represent the style in the movie. My skirt covered two of those style cues with its preppy print and mini skirt length. I styled it with a black and red dragon crop top to pull in that third style cue. I also incorporated other elements of 90s style into the look; my dramatic hoop earrings, black cat-eye sunglasses and silly little vintage purse all added to the <i>Clueless</i> aesthetic of the look.<br />
<br />
Wanna style your own <i>Clueless</i>-inspired look? I recommend heading over to <a href="https://unitiques.com/market">Unitiques</a>; shopping second-hand is better for the environment as well as for your wallet. And Unitiques makes it easy for you- so what are you waiting for? Browse everything that they have to offer <a href="https://unitiques.com/market">here</a>.<br />

<br />
Hello! Creativity, community and support define the Richmond fashion scene- and it's one of my favorite things about Richmond by far. I try to support local fashion brands as much as possible so it should come as no surprise that I was stoked when Shop Evolve, a fairly new RVA fashion retailer, sent me a personal, hand-written invitation to their <a href="https://www.facebook.com/events/1611533002228404/">pop-up shop earlier this month at Lou Stevens Glam Squad Studio</a> on Broad Street. My roommate, Elissa, and I attended the event together and I can definitely add Shop Evolve to my list of favorites after the experience.<br />
<br />
Many items caught my eye at the event but this <a href="https://shopevolve.co/products/starstruck-skirt">black and white star skirt</a> called out to me in particular. I immediately grabbed a couple sizes to try on and headed to the dressing room. I fell in love with the skirt the second that I slipped it on; it's a little sexier than what I normally go for but having fun with fashion is all about pushing the boundaries of your comfort zone, am I right? So I went ahead and purchased it- and boy, am I glad that I did. I've already worn it more than a handful of times since buying it just a few weeks ago. Stay tuned to see all of the different ways that I style it this spring! You can add it to your own wardrobe for <a href="https://shopevolve.co/products/starstruck-skirt">$32.50 here</a>.<br />
<br />
I wanted to play up the "cool girl" vibes of the mini skirt so I styled it with a sassy red "honey" crop top. I love how the white detailing of the crop top emphasized the white star design of the skirt. A faux fur leopard print jacket added to the stylish aesthetic. I slipped into a pair of black velvet heels, grabbed a red-hot vintage purse and called it a ~look~. Red lipstick, simple golden accessories and white + blue "clout" sunglasses perfected the outfit.<br />

Hello! If you know me then you know that the majority of my wardrobe is second-hand. I enjoy shopping Poshmark, Unitiques, yard sales and thrift stores in particular for most of my clothing. I've been on a bit of a thrifting kick lately as I start to fill my wardrobe with new styles for spring. I try to go to a wide variety of thrift shops in Richmond but I'm definitely guilty of hitting a few thrift shops more frequently than others. And I wanted to go ahead and share those favorites with you all- maybe you'll soon add them to your list of faves too? Anyways, keep reading to check them out!<br />
<br />
<b>1. <a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/Fan-Tastic-Thrift/135721759810593">Fan Tastic Thrift</a>. </b>1914 W Main St, Richmond, VA 23220. Located in the Fan area of Richmond- as the name suggests! I'd definitely say that you can find the best prices at Fantastic Thrift and I find that their merchandise moves through the store quickly so you're always looking at new (to you!) items. I discovered the cutest bubble gum pink vintage dress for around $5 there last year and it's still one of my favorite dresses in my wardrobe.<br />
<br />
<b>2. <a href="http://diversitythrift.org/">Diversity Thrift</a>.</b> 1407 Sherwood Ave, Richmond, VA 23220. Diversity Thrift has a great selection of clothing as well as bags and shoes. Like Fan Tastic Thrift, merchandise moves very quickly through Diversity Thrift and it seems like they often put out new items. I purchased the green Black House White Market top that I'm wearing above from Diversity for just a few dollars recently.<br />
<br />
<b>3. <a href="http://hopecentral.com/hope-thrift/">Hope Thrift</a>.</b> 11260 Patterson Ave, Henrico, VA 23238.<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"> </span>I found a Juicy Couture dress in my size at Hope Thrift for just TEN dollars last week. Need I say more? You can often find nicer brands in this thrift shop; I also purchased a Mink Pink dress and Urban Outfitters dress on the same trip. Unfortunately, there's not as much vintage at this thrift shop and I usually prefer vintage.<br />
<br />
<b>4. <a href="https://satruck.org/">Salvation Army</a>.</b> 2601 Hermitage Rd, Richmond, VA 23220. Half price clothes on Wednesdays! You can't beat that.<br />
<br />
<b>5. <a href="http://www.chkd.org/Support-Us/Thrift-Stores/">CHKD Thrift Store</a>.</b> 8032 W Broad St, Richmond, VA 23294<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">. </span>There's a wide selection of clothing at this thrift shop and they also offer a 25% off coupon on Mondays. Discounts on already inexpensive clothing? Yes please!<br />
<br />
Do you have any favorite thrift stores in your area?<br />

<br />
Hello! Fashion moves fast; it's constantly shifting- whether that refers to a seasonal change or the emergence of new trends. For me, I'm all about color in fashion. And as the seasons and trends change, my color preferences change as well. March marks a transitional period in fashion as we usher winter out and welcome spring into our lives so it only makes sense that there's also been a recent shift in the colors in my wardrobe.<br />
<br />
I fill my wardrobe with a variety of colorful dresses and vintage gems but usually one or two different colors reign supreme in my wardrobe. Baby blue and peachy keen hues took over my closet after I graduated from college and I flirted with yellow briefly afterwards before deciding to go steady with the color pink. And I've been rocking pink for a while now. At one point last year, the number of pink garments on my clothing rack surpassed the number of black garments. But in the past couple of months I've found that I've slowly been removing shades of pink from my wardrobe.<br />
<br />
And what's been replacing those pretty pink hues? Bold shades of red. I've recently been really drawn to anything and everything red- from flirty red dresses to eye-catching shades of red lipstick. I've never really been a fan of the color red before but hey, there's just something about it that I can't resist at the moment. Maybe it symbolizes a change in mood? A fiery rebirth of my spirit as the weather warms up?<br />
<br />
I think it's interesting the roles that certain colors play and how colors can affect your mood. Red symbolizes passion, love, adventure and seduction. It's certainly a strong color and there's something almost empowering about rocking the fiery shade. My newfound fondest for the color took me by surprise but in the best way possible. Expect to see a lot more red hues on the blog this spring.<br />
<br />
Zaful recently sent me this playful red and white polka dot dress to showcase on my blog and I've been wearing it practically on repeat. I'd even go as far as to say that this dress perhaps inspired my recent lust for the color. You can check this dress out for yourself <a href="https://www.zaful.com/keyhole-polka-dot-layered-dress-p_504064.html?lkid=12752435">here</a> for just $22.<br />

Do you go through phases with color in your wardrobe? Or do you have a favorite color to rock? Let me know in the comments below!<br />

<br />
Hello! <a href="https://caseapp.com/?utm_source=blog&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=toriradday-jan18&utm_term=toriradday&utm_content=case">CaseApp</a> recently reached out to me regarding a collaboration and I immediately hopped on board. CaseApp sells a variety of phone and laptop cases and skins; they have their own designs but also give you the option of creating your own custom designs. I've seen a few of my favorite Instagram babes rocking CaseApp phone cases and laptop cases in their photos in the past and I couldn't wait to try out CaseApp's cases for myself. They offered to send over two cases so I selected my favorite design for a phone case and my roommate, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/elissarummy/">Elissa</a>, selected her favorite design for a phone case as well.<br />
<br />
I picked their pink and gold case. You can check it out for yourself <a href="https://caseapp.com/custom-cases/iphone-cases/iphone-x/pink-and-gold">HERE</a>. I love its subtle marble print design, soft colors and hints of femininity. And this may sound a little bit ridiculous but it looks great in every mirror selfie that I take and that definitely earns it bonus points in my book. Elissa went with their washy wash case. Check it out for yourself <a href="https://caseapp.com/custom-cases/iphone-cases/iphone-x/washy-wash">HERE</a>. I actually like Elissa's case just as much as I like my own; its rich colors and chic print are absolutely gorgeous.<br />
<br />
We both selected their most protective cases and I'm very pleased with the durability of my case. I tend to take selfies in very precarious manners and often find myself dropping my phone in the process. I've dropped my phone many times while it's been in this case and each time, the case has protected it from the fall. And thank goodness for that!<br />
<br />
I'd highly recommend <a href="https://caseapp.com/?utm_source=blog&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=toriradday-jan18&utm_term=toriradday&utm_content=case">checking out CaseApp for yourself</a>- whether you want to browse their designs or create your own.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hello! I recently teamed up with <a href="https://www.bluehouserva.com/">Blue House RVA</a>, a local Richmond second-hand fashion e-commerce retailer, to coordinate and style a collaborative lookbook for their spring/summer 2018 collection. <a href="https://www.instagram.com/nicoleta_kd/">Nicole Kappatos</a>, a fellow Richmond boss babe, launched Blue House RVA last year and immediately caught my attention. She stocks her shop with a variety of cool vintage pieces at affordable prices- and I love supporting local Richmond boss babes. I reached out to fellow boss babes, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/magan_shively/">Magan Shively</a> and <a href="https://www.instagram.com/elissarummy/">Elissa Rumford</a>, to involve them in the shoot as well as models. Elissa also shot a majority of the photos for the look book. Nicole also involved her friend, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/ac_cosby/">AC Cosby</a>, to help behind the scenes of the look book. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Nicole brought over a rack full of the prettiest vintage pieces to my styling studio space for me to pull from for the look book. Magan, Elissa and I all tried on the pieces that we were most drawn to and then I got to work on the styling of those pieces. I pulled accessories and a few supplemental pieces of clothing from my own wardrobe to perfect the looks. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I wanted to focus on creating a very carefree "retro vacay in California" aesthetic with the looks. I played around with styling contemporary pieces with Blue House RVA's vintage pieces for really fun spring looks. Pops of color, playful sunglasses and killer heels really enhanced the beauty of Blue House RVA's garments. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had a wonderful time styling <a href="https://www.bluehouserva.com/">Blue House RVA's vintage garments</a> and have the shop bookmarked on my laptop for future vintage purchases. I'd highly recommend checking out all of the gorgeous second-hand pieces that Blue House RVA has to offer <a href="https://www.bluehouserva.com/">here</a>. And right now, Nicole is offering Fashion, Trends & More readers 10% off their purchase- which you should definitely take advantage of! Use promo code Tori at checkout for 10% off your purchase for the next 24 hours. </div>

<br />
Hello! I graduated from college almost two years ago and started working in an office shortly after my graduation. I work as an e-commerce retail catalog assistant for a home decor retailer; I process our shipments, file claims, handle our social media and marketing and write our copy. It was exciting to be working my first "big girl" job but dressing the part seemed slightly daunting. I rocked micro minis and platform heels constantly (and still do!)- what was I supposed to wear to the office? Luckily, I work in a relatively laid-back office environment and am granted a lot of freedom in my style choices. However, I do like to do my best to put together "office looks" and have found myself trying to play around with these styles more and more lately. Who says that office attire has to be boring?<br />
<br />
One office style element that I've been experimenting a lot with lately is neutral color. Neutral colors work wonderfully for the office but unfortunately, can often feel very "blah" if not styled appropriately. But there's no need for neutrals to be boring. I paired neutral colors with other interesting style elements in my look above to create an aesthetic that not only works well for the office but also feels fresh and hip at the same time. Wondering how you can take your neutrals away from "blah" and to a new level of office style cool? Well, I've compiled a list of my five best tips for avoiding the office "blahs" while playing with neutrals, keep reading to check them out:<br />
<br />
<b>1. Play with prints. </b>Neutral colors on their own are boring. But neutral colors within prints? Simply charming! Go for more patterned neutral pieces rather than solids to create interesting looks. Even neutral prints tend to be relatively quiet but that gives you a lot of freedom to mix and match different neutral prints like I did above. When mixing and matching neutral prints, be sure that the pieces that you're styling together share at least one color in common. For example, the sweater and skirt that I'm wearing above both have white within their prints.<br />
<br />
<b>2. Experiment with texture.</b> Mixing and matching textures is another way to create more interest when styling neutral pieces. Try pairing a cozy sweater with a silky skirt or a knit top with a cotton skirt. Add interest with a funky leather fringe purse or vinyl clutch. The juxtaposition of different textures is more visually appealing than a look composed of entirely one texture.<br />
<br />
<b>3. Use accessories to make a powerful impact.</b> Neutrals provide you with a simple palette to accessorize, accessorize, accessorize. Since the emphasis of your look isn't on color, you can have more fun with accessories. Go for a bold pair of earrings or unique glasses. This also works well for the workplace because you often have more freedom when it comes to accessorizing.<br />
<br />
<b>4. Elevate the look with a cool pair of shoes.</b> Details are key! A great pair of statement shoes can take neutrals from "eh" to "okay, wow" in a matter of minutes.<br />
<br />
<b>5. Add just a touch of color.</b> A hint of color will instantly add visual interest. One thing I love about neutrals? They look good with many different colors so you have a lot of different choices. I paired subtle dark green accents with this look to keep it from feeling "blah."<br />
<br />
What do y'all think about neutrals?<br />
