Hello! Today, I have an interview with Savannah Shaw, owner of etsy shop, Simple Auras, to share with you guys today. Savannah and I are in the same class at Philadelphia University and she is one of the most down-to-earth, creative students in my class. When I found out that she had opened her own etsy shop, I was eager to check it out. I fell in love with her shop while browsing the selection of earrings, necklaces, photographs and prints. Prices range between $5-$20; very affordable! Check out my interview with Savannah below:

What’s your major at Philadelphia University? My major is Industrial Design! A lot of people usually just nod their heads when I tell them that my major is ID, but they really have no clue what it’s about. Wikipedia’s definition of Industrial Design is the easiest to understand in my opinion, “Industrial design is the use of both applied art and applied science to improve the aesthetics, design, ergonomics, functionality, and/or usability of a product, and it may also be used to improve the product's marketability and even production.” It’s an extremely broad major, which is a reason I love it because I don’t stay interested in things for too long.

What drew you to industrial design? Like I said before, it’s super broad. I could design shoes for Nike, use technology like laser cutting to make acrylic jewelry, research and use fire resistant fabric to make fire/rescue gear for firemen, design and build furniture, or use my knowledge of design as a tool to aid the other 90% of the world with limited resources.

When did you open Simple AurasI opened my etsy shop on July 8th, 2014 which is a little over a month ago!

How did you come up with the name for your etsy shop? I remember when I was making the shop that the name was the hardest part of the process. SimpleAuras came to mind because most of my designs are somewhat simple or start off simple. I’m also interested in the auras of people and things. Everyone and everything, radiate energy and I try to create items that bring and accept positive energy.

What drew you to open your etsy shop? My love of creating started when I was little; I’ve been making presents for friends and family for years. With a year of design school under my belt, I figured it could only help me down the road in my career. It helps me keep a creative mind all year round, even in the summer, which my professors say is necessary.

Primarily, what does Simple Auras sell? In my shop you’ll find earrings, necklaces, matted black and white photographs, a couple linoleum prints. I usually have a couple handmade or vintage miscellaneous items as well.

What is your favorite product to create for your shop? I had these two triangular wooden crystal shelves, which were a lot of fun to make, but they both recently sold!

Savannah is also open to doing custom pieces and commissioned pieces. If you spend over $10, use coupon code auras10 for 10% off and if you spend over $15, use coupon code auras15 for 15% off.

Be sure to check out Simple Auras
