March 2016 Beauty Inspiration

Spring Beauty Inspiration

Hello! Can you believe it's already almost March? It feels as if March just snuck up on us! Today, I want to share a little bit of my beauty inspiration for this upcoming month with you all. This March, I'm feeling really inspired by the nude, natural makeup trend. It's so effortless and practically shouts "spring is here." Not to mention the amount of time that this beauty trend saves you while getting ready in the morning!

Forget a heavy smoky eye or deep burgundy lips this season, it's all about going lighter. I'm loving the sort of fresh face look with a pop of feminine pink lipstick. Ditch your heavy makeup and swipe on some mascara and a pastel shade of pink lipstick and you're ready to go. I'll definitely be putting down my eyeliner (okay not everyday but at least a couple days a week) to try out this more natural trend.

What do you guys think of this beauty trend?

Philadelphia Fashion Week: The Runway I Show

PFWFEB2016_WHITE copy

Hello! This past Friday, I had the opportunity to attend one of the shows of Philadelphia Fashion Week, The Runway I Show. I've been to shows throughout Philadelphia Fashion Week for the past few seasons and was excited to be in attendance again.

Unlike previous seasons that I've attended, this season the shows were held at 2300 Arena. The change of venue promoted the event as more important and more glamorous. The venue definitely made me feel as if the event was more high-fashion, more like other major fashion weeks such as NYFW.

I arrived around 7PM and mingled with fellow bloggers, photographers and fashionistas until the actual show started at 8:30PM. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to snag a front row seat this season as the show had sold out all their VIP seats/tickets. However, I was able to sit in the second row and was still very close to the action. I just wasn't able to get the photos that I had hoped I would be able to get. I'd still like to share my thoughts on the collections with you all, even though I can't share any photos.

Nine different designers showed their collections on the runway:

Ke Collection. This women's wear collection featured very feminine, lady-like styles. There was an emphasis on soft textures such as lace, light colors such as neutral yellow and feminine detailing such as ruffles, floral embellishment and bows. The models reminded me of sophisticated nature goddesses strutting down the runway. You can check out Mikhail Veter's images from the show here.

D Leaks Bowties. This gender-neutral collection featured elaborate bow ties for both men and women. All models strutted down the runway wearing quirky yet elegant bunny masks. The collection caught my eye amongst the others that night because it was so subtly sexy and modern. You can check out several images from the collection here.

Mah Jing Wong. This refreshing collection featured very cool-toned, light colors such as a variety of shades of aqua blues. It gave it a sort of summer-y mood. There were a variety of sexy details including plunging necklines and slits featured in the line as well.

Fairezt of Them All. This collection featured fashion for both men and women. Models strutted down the runway wearing burglar masks indicating an indifference to breaking the rules. There was sort of a dark, edgy mood to the collection. It featured primarily black colors, shredded detailing and dark lipstick. The collection screamed grunge chic.

Lavida Revere. This women's collection featured a rockstar-badass persona. Revere relied on primarily black and white colors and played around with the contrast of light with dark. Additionally, the textures of her designs made quite a splash. She experimented with a variety of fabrics such as sheer, tulle and mesh fabrics which added an edgy sex appeal to the looks. The entire collection had a sort of "too cool" mood to it that I loved immensely. You can check out Mikhail Veter's images from the show here.

Kevyn Michaels. The second that the first Kevyn Michaels look strutted down the runway, I knew that this would be my favorite collection of the entire night. The first look was a men's denim suit covered in pins and other glimmering embellishment paired with metallic loafers. It felt like a definite 90's throwback but also so fresh, so now. Michaels relied on glitzy detailing in several more of his designs. His collection felt very cultured and gentlemanly. The collection also featured an emphasis on large bags and plaid prints.

Todd Anthony. Anthony took metallics to a new level in this collection. He also relied on the use of black and red colors. His combination of colors was very bold, very striking. The designs had a definite sex appeal to them.

Moses King. Moses King had showed his androgynous designs a previous night of Philadelphia Fashion Week and when the announcer announced Moses King's line, I could sense the excitement of the crowd to see his designs again. It was definitely the crowd favorite. This collection was athletic-inspired but nothing like the dull athleisure that won't seem to go away. Instead, King took basic athletic pieces such as sweatpants and embellished them with glitz and glamour to create a striking new aesthetic. There was a definite contrast of low ("gym" wear typically reserved for the couch) and high (glitzy embellishment and breathtaking jewels.) The contrast created a super luxe feel as the glitz of the detailing felt even more high-class when paired with something so mundane as a pair of sweatpants.

Harx Four. The male and female models strutted the Harx Four designs down the runway to Beyonce's latest hit, Formation, playing in the background. Immediately, the song choice portrayed a sort of power or strength to the designs. There were strong silhouettes and lines in this collection. The color black was primarily used, creating sort of an edge. The designs were relatively basic but in a cool way.

Celebrating 1K Posts

February 2016
February 2016

Hello! Today, I'm celebrating 1,000 posts on this blog- can you believe that?? I started my blog roughly five and a half years ago and blogging has become such an integral part of my life that I can't even imagine my life without my blog. When I first started my blog, I had no idea that it would grow to the point it's at today.

I launched my blog in the summer after my freshman year of high school as a way of pursuing my love for fashion. I lived in the suburbs and went to a boring, cookie cutter school; none of my friends were interested in fashion and I wanted an outlet in which I could express my thoughts on fashion and style. When I first launched my blog, blogging wasn't nearly what it is today. There were a handful of famous fashion bloggers out there like Tavi Gevinson but the blogging market wasn't completely oversaturated like it is today. Therefore, I didn't really have much direction with my blog, I didn't have much to mold it around. And in the beginning, my blog was a mess but it's grown tremendously since I first started it.

Blogging has provided me with countless opportunities and prompted me to launch a career in fashion. I wouldn't be where I am today without my blog. I'm forever grateful for starting my blog roughly five and a half years ago. Here's to many more blog posts in the future!

$2 Forever 21 Steal

February 2016
February 2016
February 2016

Hello! This past weekend, I traveled home to Richmond to spend a couple days with my boyfriend. I also snuck in a quick shopping trip to Forever 21 while I was home. And it was perfect timing for a trip to Forever 21- all of their sale items were an additional 75% off of the sale price. Talk about a crazy good sale!

When I spotted this dress on sale at Forever 21, I knew that I had to have it. I was immediately drawn to the black color, peasant-style silhouette and bold seventies-inspired detailing. Originally this dress retailed for about $35 but it was marked down so heavily that I purchased it for a little less than $2. That's less than I pay for lunch! I can't even get over how happy I am with this purchase. I have a feeling that this neutral seventies beauty will become one of my wardrobe staples this upcoming spring season. I can't wait to break it out with boho wedges and bright lipstick.

However, for this look, I had to layer up to stay warm. I paired a cream-colored faux fur jacket and opaque black tights with the dress. I wanted to play up the sort of delicate vintage-inspired mood of the dress and styled it with a golden vintage purse, simple golden jewelry and feminine heels.

Stay tuned for all of the other ways that I plan on styling this dress!

Happy Hair: Garnier Triple Nutrition Curl Nourish

February 2016
February 2016
February 2016

Hello! As you guys probably know, I've stopped using heat on my hair for the past few months. I've been focusing on keeping my hair healthy to promote its growth and an enhanced appearance. I essentially never blow dry my hair or straighten it but for a while, I was relying on my curling wand a little too often for "touch ups" to my naturally curly hair when it probably didn't need to be fixed up. As cheesy or as ridiculous as it may seem, my hair seems a lot happier now that I've stopped using heat on it. It feels softer and the naturally curly texture of my hair seems as if it's enhanced.

Since I've stopped using heat on my hair, I rely more on products such as curl-enhancing mousse to tame my mane. And a couple months ago, Garnier sent me complimentary products from their new curly hair line, Triple Nutrition Curl Nourish to test out. They sent me the shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner, curl stretch loosening pudding and curl renew reactivating milk spray. I've been using the products for a few weeks now and I'm hooked. I deal with less frizz and softer curls and what's better than that? If you have naturally curly hair, I would definitely recommend trying out this product line. All products cost less than $6 individually and will majorly boost your hairstyle.

In particular, I really LOVE the curl renew reactivating milk spray. After I shower, I comb my hair, apply this spray, scrunch my hair and I'm left with perfect curls. Another thing I love about this spray is that it feels super light-weight, I don't feel like the product is weighing my curls down. Another plus? This spray as well as the other products in the line smell amazing- very fresh. One thing is for sure, when I run out of these products, I'll be headed off to buy more. If you have naturally curly hair like me, I'd also suggest trying this line out.

Floral on Leopard

February 2016

Hello! For the past couple weeks as I stand in front of my closet trying to figure out what to wear, I'm having an increasingly difficult time styling new looks. The harsh winter weather seemingly makes dressing stylishly about a hundred times more difficult. I gaze longingly at my platform wedges and vibrant spring dresses before I sullenly pull out yet another black dress or faux fur coat to style my outfit around. I'm impatiently counting down the days that I'll be able to ditch winter coats entirely and care-freely step outside with bare legs. But for now, I'm stuck working around styling looks that will be appropriate as snow falls all around me outside.

When I can't think of what to wear, I typically just throw on all black and call it a day. And I've been having a sort of styling block the past few days so it's been a lot of black for the past few days. As much as I love all black looks, there is something as too much black. It can get boring, dull and feel somewhat tired. For this look, I wanted to break that pattern of wearing primarily all black.

I decided to pull a floral dress out of my closet that I would typically reserve for the fall or spring. The airy silhouette and light fabric make this a dress not as suited for winter but I just love the deep colors, mod floral print and swingy silhouette and couldn't resist wearing it any longer. Additionally, there's sort of a retro sixties/seventies feel to this dress that I love. To make it appropriate for winter, I knew that I would need to layer. I decided to play up the sort of sixties/seventies vibe of the dress by layering a leopard print, long-sleeve button down top underneath the dress. The leopard print of the blouse and the floral print of the dress effortlessly complement each other. Also, I love the way that the collar of the button down playfully peeks out from under the dress. The high collar of this top sort of reminds me of something that Twiggy would have worn in the sixties or the seventies.

I wanted to draw attention to the collar of the button down so I decided to accessorize with a few necklaces. I pulled out four different necklaces to layer together- three golden crystal necklaces (to emphasize that sixties free-spirited vibe) and my golden "Tori" necklace. I slipped on a pair of golden sunglasses to complement the golden color of my necklaces. A feminine shade of pink lipstick pulled all the colors in the outfit together.

To keep warm, I layered a neutral tan coat over this outfit. I also slipped into a pair of burgundy thigh-high socks to highlight the shades of maroon in the dress. I styled a pair of neutral leopard print booties with the socks to contrast the leopard print pattern in my blouse.

Taisha, Lauren & I

Lauren, Taisha & I

Hello! From the first days of my freshman year to my last semester at Philadelphia University, I've been lucky to have my friends, Taisha and Lauren by my side. We were randomly placed to live together freshman year and while we no longer live together, we've still maintained our friendship. Like myself, Taisha and Lauren are also fashion merchandising majors. And their style definitely proves it. We decided to shoot a couple photos together this past week and this photo above represents our styles perfectly.

Lauren, featured on the far left, donned a breezy black and white polka dot skirt paired with a statement black coat, chic black booties and a cozy knit scarf. She also rocked an incredible shade of dark lipstick (which I'm totally jealous of.) This outfit shows off Lauren's sophisticated, put-together sense of style. You can check Lauren out on Instagram @lauren_aleya

Taisha, featured in the center, wore a pair of high-rise green pants paired with an edgy black coat, neutral booties and luxe faux fur scarf. I'm forever swooning over the outfits Taisha puts together and love her bold sense of style and eagerness to try out trends. You can check Taisha out on Instagram @eclectic_minimalist

For my look, I slipped into a plum-colored corduroy dressed paired with a pair of polka dot tights, black duster cardigan and major faux fur coat. I accessorized with a pair of statement shades and statement necklace. Silver booties and red lipstick gave the look an extra boost of glamour.

What I'm Loving Right Now: Faux Fur Adorned Heels

What I'm Loving Right Now: Fluffy Heels

Hello! Right now, I can't get over how much I'm loving the fluffy, faux fur heel trend. These ladylike heels detailed with feminine poufs of faux fur are practically calling my name. There's something so dreamy, over-the-top feminine, almost princessy-prissy about this style of heels that I can't help but to love them. They're ridiculously impractical and I think that may be one of the reasons why I'm drawn to them. They represent the fantasy that fashion can portray. Not everything in fashion is practical (in fact, almost half of what is strutted down the runway is impractical) but fashion isn't about practicality, it's about fantasy, it's about imagination, it's about creating an aesthetic. And I think that this trend represents that flawlessly.

I probably won't be trying this luxe trend out because after all it is impractical and I'm on a college budget but if you're interested in trying out the trend, I love this pair and this pair of faux fur fluff-adorned heels.

Dressed to Kill

February 2016
February 2016

Hello! Ugh, I'm SO over this cold weather and the necessity of donning thick tights and faux fur coats everyday. Spring, where are you? I currently only have a few winter coats with me at school and I'm getting sick of wearing the same coats day after day. Wearing the same coats with the same style of tights day in and day out can give off the appearance of wearing the same (or at least very similar outfits) everyday. To distinguish my outfits from one another, I've been relying heavily on bold outfit details.

For this look, yet again, I slipped on another pair of basic black tights and grabbed my leopard print faux fur coat. However, I switched things up by pairing a blue and white porcelain print dress with the leopard print coat. This juxtaposition of patterns creates an eye-catching look.

I also played around with my accessories for a sort of young, quirky hip vibe. I took on the bandana neck scarf trend and tied a navy blue bandana around my neck to accentuate the blue in the print of my dress. I added a swipe of red lipstick for a bit of an all-American red, white and blue feel. However, this look didn't quite feel complete so I decided to have some fun with this look and grabbed a few quirky vintage buttons including a "dressed to kill" button. I love the small but vibrant bursts of energy that the buttons emit. These retro buttons definitely keep this look from being anything but boring!

Valentine's Day-Inspired Vintage and Boho Fashion

Hello! Today, I have a guest post from Sarah-Allen Carter from Los Angeles, California. She's here today to talk to you guys about Valentine's Day-inspired vintage and boho fashion:

Wear your heart on your sleeve this Valentine’s Day by indulging in your favorite vintage and boho fashion. We have some beautiful pink and red pieces that we think you’ll adore—no significant other required. These finds are great whether you’re heading out for the night, or having a movie marathon at home. Even though these clothes are fresh off the shelves, they’re a great example of how you can still recreate the sought-after style that you’d normally get from thrifted items.

Lyst

Think pink for Valentine’s Day and into spring by incorporating the dusty pink hue known as Rose Quartz. Recommended by InStyle magazine's top ten colors list, which was chosen by the color-predicting experts at Pantone, the milky pink and red cat eye shades from Kate Spade boast an excellent vintage shape and vibe.

Lyst

Bohemian babes, rejoice! The runways have spoken and, according to Harper’s Bazaar, fringe is in. So, we’ve chosen the fabulous red suede X body handbag pictured above from Oasis to complement all of your outfits. Best of all, this little purse will look great with more than just neutrals. Pair it with pink, navy blue, yellow, and more.

Lyst

Light, airy, and boho chic, this beautiful floral print bell sleeve romper from Lord & Taylor will be on trend from now through summer, which is why we’ve recommended picking up this piece for your Valentine’s Day festivities or whatever events are thrown your way this season. Still chilly outside? Pair it with cream tights and a beautiful pair of suede beige booties for a gorgeous winter-to-spring transition outfit.

Lyst

Suggested by Lyst for its gorgeous ruby red hue, this little high low mini is perfect for whatever you end up doing this Valentine’s Day. Not only would the Tu Es La dress from Free People look fab with booties and tights for chilly weather, but it would look equally as stunning worn alone with a pair of tall gladiators and sunnies.

Lyst

Whether you’re smooching your sweetie, or you just want to look like you’ve been making out from the waist down, these vintage-style cigarette denim trousers from American Retro are too cute to pass up. If you like quirky, then you’ll love wearing these pants for Valentine’s Day and anytime you feel like starting conversations just by stepping into the room.

Lyst

Pink boots? Absolutely! Office's quirky and fun pink Clueless nubuck leather work boots are great for adding a bit of edge to an otherwise feminine outfit. Pair these with all black, all white, or a combination of colors with tights for winter. Keep these around throughout the spring and summer, too, by teaming with cut off shorts, sun dresses, and more.

Now that you’ve had a chance to see our vintage- and boho-inspired Valentine’s Day selections, we hope you’ll have fun incorporating the pinks and reds typically associated with the date. Whether you buy them new or peruse your local thrift store, it's never too early to start planning. If you decide to stay in, the possibilities are endless; and if you’re heading out on the town, pile on the layers for a warm and stylish look. Whatever you do, make sure to have fun and enjoy the process of electing your exciting new ensemble.

Mod Inspiration: Scooby Doo Where are You?

Scooby Doo Where are You Fashion Inspiration

Hello! Okay, I have a confession to make: a couple weeks ago, I purchased the second season of Scooby Doo: Where are You? on iTunes and shamelessly binge-watched the show. I absolutely adored the show when I was younger and I feel no differently towards it today. Yes, this iconic cartoon television show is intended for a younger audience but it's also so rich in sixties and seventies culture that I can't resist it.

I'm really inspired by the use of bold, mod colors in the show. Through the use of color, you can definitely tell that this TV series debuted in the late 1960's! The Mystery Machine, the Malt Shop and other various aspects of the show utilize bright colors that seem to pop right off the screen. In particular, I'm drawn to the outfits of Daphne and Velma (Fred as well but not quite as relatable since he's male and I'm female.) I love how bold colors are paired together for statement looks. Above is a little bit of the style inspiration that I gathered from the show. The seventies made a splash this past fall/winter season and I'm predicting that the sixties will hold style influence this upcoming spring/summer season.

Universitee Box: Goal Digger

January 2016

Hello! Recently, Universitee Box reached out to me to see if I wanted to try a complimentary month of their service. For those of you who are not familiar with Universitee Box, it is a monthly subscription box designed for female college students. They compare their service to a dressed up care package. And that it certainly is! They offer three different boxes- the "bauble" box, the "duo" box and the "alumna" box. The "bauble" box costs about $17/month and contains an affirmation card and 1-3 pieces of jewelry. The "duo" box costs about $29/month and contains an affirmation card, a tee shirt and 1-3 pieces of jewelry. The "alumna" box costs about $35/month and contains an affirmation card, a lifestyle item, a tee shirt and 1-3 pieces of jewelry.

In the January box, I received a stunning statement necklace, cool "GOAL DIGGER" tee, set of pencils, set of goal cards and charming affirmation card. When I received my January box in the mail, I was immediately impressed; the packaging of the box is so pretty and the box feels like an absolute luxury. Although I'm not typically a fan of tee shirts, I'm loving the "GOAL DIGGER" tee that I received in the box. For this look, I wanted to focus on the tee and styled my look around it. I paired it with a simple black circle skirt and black tights to let the tee steal the attention of the look. I styled a major leopard print faux fur coat with the tee to accentuate the coloring of the letters on the tee. To further accentuate the golden color of the lettering on the tee, I grabbed my statement necklace from my January Universitee box, my golden "Tori" necklace and a pair of golden shades. A feminine shade of pink lipstick pulled the look together.

CollegeFashionista Internship

CF internship

Hello! You may or may not already know this but this semester, I'm interning for CollegeFashionista as a style guru. Basically, I write a couple articles a month focused on the style at Philadelphia University and represent and promote CollegeFashionista through social media. For those of you who haven't heard of CollegeFashionista, it's a site full of college street style. You can browse through the campus style of different schools and "follow" your favorite style gurus to keep up with their posts. I'm delighted to be interning for CollegeFashionista this semester to gather valuable experience and knowledge in the industry of which I hope to work in when I graduate.

Today, my second CollegeFashionista article went live. It features my favorite faux fur coat and highlights the faux fur trend prompted by fashion designer Prabal Gurung. I'd love it if you guys would check it out HERE and give it a "RAD."

Laced Up

February 2016

Hello! Did the groundhog not seeing his shadow really mean that we're having an early spring? Because it sure feels like it here in Philadelphia! It's been in the mid-fifties all week here so far and the warmer weather is working to melt away all the snow and traces of winter. But I'm definitely not complaining. I can't think of anything better than an early spring and to continue with the warmer weather we've been having. I'm ready to pack away my tights and faux fur coats and pull out flirty spring dresses and wedges.

For this look, I straddled the two seasons by sticking to an all black color palette reminiscent of winter but added a more spring-like aspect to the look by ditching tights/thigh high socks. I styled a black lace-up top with a black circle skirt and black duster cardigan for a basic yet trendy base for my outfit.

Recently, I received this black lace-up top courtesy of Dresslink to show off on my blog. This piece was marked as a "dress" on the website but I have no idea how anyone would be able to rock this as a dress. I ordered a size large but this dress barely covered my butt; if I bent over wearing it, let's just say that would not be good. Otherwise, I'm happy with this piece. I can easily hem it into a top or cropped top and have a feeling I'll be rocking this top a lot in the next couple months. The classic black color and trendy, lace-up detailing make this a versatile wardrobe must-have.

I wanted to play off the trendy vibe of the lace-up top so I styled an olive green bandana neck scarf with it. I'm loving the two trends together and how the bandana directs more attention to the lace-up detailing of the top.

Of course, this look would not have truly been my style without a printed piece incorporated into it so I slipped into a pair of cream-colored, leopard print booties. I accessorized with a golden tiger statement cuff and rad black sunglasses. Red lipstick gave the look the bold pop of color that it needed.

Burgundy Beauty

January 2016
January 2016

Hello! Let me introduce you all to my favorite sweater: this burgundy beauty. I've had this sweater for a couple years now and I never grow tired of it. I remember snatching it up at Urban Outfitters on sale and am definitely happy I made this purchase! The unique textural feel of the sweater- the top of the sweater is knit while the bottom of the sweater is woven- make it a one-of-a-kind piece. The rich color, length and incredible silhouette are a few other reasons why I call this sweater my favorite. The versatility of this sweater is also wonderful- it can be paired with leggings, boho flared pants, over a dress, etc.

For this look, I styled the sweater over a short black mini skirt. To keep the look from being too basic, I donned a pair of quirky printed tights. I slipped a short black pair of socks over the tights and threw on a pair of black heeled booties with the look as well. To stay warm, I paired this faux fur trimmed coat with the outfit. I accessorized with a handful of golden rings and a golden collar necklace. A swipe of lipstick pulled the whole look together.
