Fall/Winter 2015 Trend Report: Major Fur

Fall/Winter 2015 Trend Report: Major Fur

Hello! If you haven't already noticed from my last few outfits post, I'm currently obsessing over faux fur. It's so luxe, so glam, so rich, how could I resist? While faux fur has been lingering around the past few winter seasons, faux fur is hitting the fashion industry with full force this season. From spotting faux fur on my girl crush, Aisha Hatter, to watching it strut down the runway to seeing it featured in Scream Queens every week, I've developed a major crush on the trend.

This season, designers such as Prabal Gurung, Fendi, and Michael Kors sent the most breath-taking fur designs down their runways. Designers worked fur collars, fur vests, major fur coats and other fur detailing into their designs.

I already have quite a few faux fur items in my closet (a faux fur vest, four faux fur coats/jackets and one major vintage fur coat) but continue to lust after the glamorous faux fur coats that are popping up everywhere. I'm particularly enchanted by Nasty Gal's eclectic selection of faux fur coats; there's a multi-colored faux fur coat that they offer for $218 that I'm practically crying over because it's so perfect yet so expensive (there's no way I could afford to add that beauty to my wardrobe.)

Additionally, the most magnificent faux fur coat was featured on this month's cover of Seventeen. The alternating shades of red and pink combined with the major fluff factor of the coat have me head over heels in love. If only this coat would magically appear in my wardrobe!

Another factor that's currently influencing my obsession over faux fur is the television show, Scream Queens. It's a comedy horror type show featuring Emma Roberts. What really draws me into the show is the fashion featured; I can't get over the wardrobes of the main characters- pastel colors, major platform heels and best yet- superb fur coats!

One thing is for sure, you can bet that I'll be pulling my faux fur pieces out constantly this season! What do you guys think of this trend?

Vintage Corduroy

October 2015

Hello! Recently, the weather has been all over the place. It'll go from being so cold that I'm shivering wearing faux fur to being so warm that I'm sweating in a lightweight sweater. The weather warmed up at one point last week and I decided to take advantage of it and pull this sleeveless, vintage dress out of my wardrobe. I purchased it at a thrift shop for less than $5 a couple years ago and while I don't wear it that often, it holds a special place in my wardrobe. The deep plum color, basic silhouette and corduroy all make this dress a stunner.

Although the dress is vintage, I was going for a very modern, hip, minimalist look so I played down the rest of the look. I paired the dress with a pair of color-blocked thigh high socks and heeled booties. I kept accessories to a minimum and just slipped on a golden pair of sunglasses and trendy marble printed cuff.

November 2015 Inspiration

November 2015 Inspiration

Hello! Who can believe that November is already almost upon us? It feels as if October just flew by. Now if only it could already be winter break! I'm ready to be back home, curled up with my Yorkie and a cup of hot cocoa, not stressing about everything that's been going on this semester.

Today, I wanted to share my November 2015 style inspiration with you guys. November symbolizes the start of the holiday season and of course, the various parties and events that abound throughout the holiday season. Which means that it's time to begin prepping your wardrobe for the holiday parties that you'll attend. Sequins, faux fur and lace, oh my! This season, I'm loving luxe, rich textures and lots of glam sparkle. As for color, neutral colors such as grays and beiges as well as rich deep colors such as burgundy and plum have captured my heart.

If you're searching for a dress for your next formal event, you can check out BeFormal's selection of vintage formal dresses australia and long formal dresses online australia (http://www.beformal.com.au/list/long-formal-dresses-c113334/.) Plenty of glam options perfect for dressing up for this season! I love the lace detailing on their red dress featured above and the glimmering embellishment of their golden dress featured above. Check out more of their vintage formal dresses from online store.

November not only marks the beginning of the holiday season and thus, holiday parties but also considerably chillier weather. Time to break out your winter coats and chunky knit sweaters! I'm falling for cozy textured knit sweaters and statement coats right now. In particular, I'm obsessing over faux fur coats and loving all the options out there from shaggy fur coats to more glam silky fur coats. You can be sure that you'll spot me in plenty of fur coats this season.

Other pieces that I'm loving this November include statement heels, delicate lace bralettes and deep shades of lipstick.

Kayla & I

Kayla & I
Kayla & I

Hello! One of the things that I love about going to a creative, design-oriented school is the abundance of well-dressed students on campus. Kayla Davies, one of my friends and a fellow fashion merchandising student, certainly fits the description of a free-spirited student with an eclectic style. Her wardrobe is rich in vintage pieces that she pairs with more hip, modern pieces. Her style has a distinct retro influence as well as being slightly boho-edgy.

We took a couple photos of our outfits together earlier last week. She styled a vintage jacket with a basic tank and pair of distressed denim shorts. I love the pumpkin-colored pop of color and bohemian hat that she incorporated into her look.

For my look, I pulled out my favorite dress from my wardrobe: a cream-colored, lace dress with the most incredible bell sleeves. I styled it with a pair of dark-green suede wedges and statement necklace. Classic golden sunglasses completed the look.

Fall 2015 Trend Report: Button Up Denim Mini-Skirts

Fall 2015 Trend Report: Button Up Denim Mini-Skirts

Hello! Ugh, this fall, button up, denim mini-skirts have captured my heart. I can't help but to lust after denim mini after denim mini while browsing my Instagram feed. So many fashion bloggers and other fashion insiders are all over this trend; in particular, I love how Kacie Cone of Shy Girl Loud Voice styles her denim mini (shown above.) I love how rad graphic tees and funky jackets look paired with this trend.

This trend also shares the spotlight with button up suede mini skirts. However, denim minis are perfect for the weather right now while suede minis will rise in popularity within the next couple weeks.

What do you guys think of the trend?

Red Glam Faux Fur

October 20th 2015
October 20th 2015

Hello! Featured above is the newest addition to my wardrobe- this incredibly glamorous, red faux fur jacket. I'm in love. Like wow. Could a jacket get much better than this?? The brilliant red color, faux fur texture and cropped fit make this jacket a stunner. My friend, Bri, bought this jacket a couple years ago on sale and never wore it. She went home this weekend and when she returned, she had this red jacket in tow; she knows my adoration of faux fur and brought it back for me. And like I said, I'm in love.

Diva-esque faux fur jackets are my latest obsession. I've been crying over THIS faux fur jacket from Nasty Gal since the day I spotted it; alas, it costs $218 and for a broke college student with less than $100 in her bank account, I'll never be able to buy it (unless there's some huge mega sale.)

For the look above, I decided to play up the diva vibes of the jacket by pairing it with a statement red lip and cherry red platform heels. I wanted to keep the focus of my look on the jacket so I styled it with a black and white striped dress. Golden jewelry and golden sunglasses perfected the look.

Hello! Whenever I think that it's not possible to fall anymore in love with Free People, they release a new lookbook that challenges that idea. In their most recent lookbook, Eastern Star, they captured my heart with bohemian prints, stacked jewelry and eclectic belts. And that lace-up top in the fourth photo above? Swoon! The neutral color, form-fitting silhouette and lace-up detailing couldn't get any better.

However, the Free People designs aren't the only thing capturing my heart in their latest lookbook. The lookbook features model Joanna Halpin and I can't help but have major hair envy while looking through the lookbook. Can my hair please reach that length again???

The Return of Faux Fur

October 2015

Hello! While I'm slightly bitter about the return of cold weather, the opportunity to break out my faux fur coats diminishes that bitterness. From cozy leopard print faux fur to glamorous red faux fur, my wardrobe is rich in faux fur; I own four faux fur coats/jackets, a faux fur vest and a vintage fur coat. And I love every single one of them.

When the temperatures dropped to the thirties on Monday, I pulled this charming leopard print faux fur coat out of my closet. I paired it with a deep wine-colored, bell-sleeve dress. For a luxe look, I slipped on cat-eye sunglasses and lace-up, thigh high boots.

6 Tips for Creating Your Dream Closet

6 Ways to Create Your Dream Closet

Hello! Today, I've teamed up with Compass, a new real estate platform in New York, to bring you six different tips for creating your dream closet. I don't usually participate in many blogging challenges but a challenge revolving around creating a dream closet is right up my alley.

When I'm searching for my dream house or apartment in a few years, you can bet that I'll definitely be including "spacious closet" as one of my must-haves. Compass allows people to find their perfect house based on interests and design features of the house. Compass could definitely come in handy with finding a home with the perfect closet.

Right now, I'm stuck living in a shoebox of a room as I'm still living on campus for my last year of college; no, really, I've never seen a smaller bedroom. While the room is unbelievably tiny, the closet is decent and I live by the following tips to help make it my dream closet:

1. Organize by color. Hanging your clothing by color makes it easier to find what you're looking for.

2. Invest in good quality hangers. Say goodbye to plastic hangers and hangers that you've taken home from the department store. Invest a few more bucks for velvet or wooden hangers. They are 100x worth the slight extra cost.

3. Display your shoes so that you can see them. I love my shoes more than I love most people so of course, I want to be able to see them. I spend more money on shoes than anything else and consider most of my pairs of shoes "my babies." How could I be so cruel as to box them up and hide them? I display them on the shelf and ground space of my closet. By displaying your shoes, you also are more aware of all your different options and have an easier time finding the pair that you're looking for.

4. Keep a mirror on your closet door. Outfits can look so much different on that it's important to have a mirror right by your closet.

5. Make sure your closet isn't overpacked. Browsing through a too tightly packed rod of clothing in your closet can be a nightmare. Ditch the items that you don't wear anymore to free up some space in your closet.

6. Only hang up your favorite items. Save your leggings and work out tees for your dresser. Let your favorite items hang proudly in your well-organized closet.

How to Instantly Look Cooler

October 2015
October 2015

Hello! What's the one accessory that you can add to any outfit that will instantly make you look cooler? Hint: it's not a major statement necklace or perfect pair of earrings. It's a hip pair of sunglasses. Sunglasses have been cited by many major fashion bloggers and fashion insiders as their go-to for instantly looking cooler. And why? Well, studies have been done that have proven that sunglasses do make the wearer look better; it has to do with the balance and symmetry that is created by slipping on a pair of sunglasses.

Throughout the past few years, I've collaborated with Giant Vintage Sunglasses and have tested out countless different pairs of their sunglasses. Heart-shaped sunglasses, butterfly sunglasses, classic sunglasses, major cat-eye sunglasses, etc. You name it, chances are that Giant Vintage has sent me a complimentary pair of that style to try out.

Giant Vintage really does have an incredible selection of different styles. Looking for a rad new pair of cat-eye shades? What about a pair of bicycle sunglasses that can double as your look for Halloween? Well, Giant Vintage has them!

I've loved every pair of shades that Giant Vintage has ever sent me. And almost every time I slip on a pair of my Giant Vintage sunnies, I receive compliments. Last weekend, I attended the Philadelphia Fashion Alliance launch and slipped on a pair and received so many compliments on my shades. I was even featured for my street style at the event HERE

Besides being really stylish, Giant Vintage sunglasses are also good quality. Even better yet, Giant Vintage stocks sunglasses that you'll actually be able to afford. The prices of the sunglasses range from about $12-$28. Additionally, use code LOLLY25 for a 25% discount.

Throughout the past few years, I've learned which sunglasses look the best on my face: round sunglasses and cat-eye sunglasses. For this look, I pulled out my Giant Vintage "Ora" sunglasses. The cat-eye shape and playful detailing make this pair of sunglasses a new favorite. I styled it with a rad, embellished vintage sweater, black denim and black platform heels.

Do you guys have a go-to pair of sunglasses?

Shades of Orange

October 2015
October 2015

Hello! Oh, October, how I love you; October is the perfect month to debut sheer tights and cozy socks. For this look, I pulled out a pair of sheer orange tights and styled them with scrunched down, maroon socks and black heeled booties. The colors of the tights and socks perfectly matched the shades of burgundy and orange in my deep fall floral dress. I added another shade of orange with my favorite cardigan. Layered necklaces and a swipe of lipstick completed the look.

What I'm Loving Right Now: The Fendi Monster

Hello! What's cuter than the Fendi monster? With exaggerated eyes and eyebrows, puffs of fur and pops of bold colors, I can't think of anything cuter than the Fendi monster. The designer monster can be found in designs of Fendi jackets, shoes and bags (the little monster on bags is my absolute favorite.) Unfortunately, I can't even come close to affording a $2,000-$4,500 Fendi bag right now but a girl can dream, can't she?

Today, I've teamed up with Farfetch to participate in their blogger challenge to come up with a couple ways to style the Fendi monster. I selected three of my favorite Fendi monster bags and put together four swoon worthy looks around them.

Fendi Monster

The Fendi Bag Bugs Backpack. Fendi gives your standard backpack a major update by adding the signature monster and shearling texture. While backpacks are typically thought of as for lugging books to class, the way Fendi updated this backpack makes it a perfect bag for night on the town or to tote with you to your next fashion event. I love the backpack with eclectic prints that emphasize the yellow of the eyes of the monster. Dress the look up a little with a pair of unique sunglasses or rich fur jacket. Let the prints and Fendi monster take the focus of your look and abandon any jewelry.

Fendi Monster 2

The Fendi Micro "Baguette" Crossbody Bag. There's no accessory more playful than a Fendi monster bag and this needs to be taken into consideration when styling a look with a Fendi monster bag. You could always throw the handbag on with a simple look and let the bag be the (only) statement of your look. But what's the fun in that? Emphasize the playful vibes of the Fendi monster by pairing it with vibrant printed shift dresses like the ones above. The free-spirited prints emphasize the lively nature of the Fendi monster. Pieces like glamorous fur jackets, whimsical sunglasses and heels with fun detail are other pieces that play up the Fendi monster perfectly. One thing is for sure, if you step out of the house in either of the looks with the Fendi micro "baguette" crossbody bag above, you'll be the talk of the town (and fashion bloggers and reporters will be dying to snap your photo.)

What do you guys think of the Fendi monster? Anyone obsessing over it like I am?

How to Style Necklaces with your Cozy Scarves

October 2015
October 2015

Hello! Falling temperatures serve as a signal that it's time to pull our scarves out of the back of our wardrobes. I'm excited to bring all of my scarves out again.

However, one of the biggest issues with scarves that I've had in the past is that I tend to abandon wearing any necklaces with my cozy scarves. I've always viewed scarves as too bulky and difficult to pair necklaces with. And if you've been following my blog for a while then you know that I hardly ever step out the door without at least one necklace decorating my look. Something just feels off when I don't have a necklace on.

So I've decided to break my own fashion rule of not pairing cozy scarves and necklaces together. I love both scarves and necklaces too much not to at least try to pair them together. I was playing around with the idea of scarves and necklaces being worn together earlier last week while putting outfits together.

For the most part, I wear big knit scarves wrapped around my neck like shown in the photo above. Of course if you just wear your scarf draping down and not wrapped up around your neck, it's easy to wear necklaces with. But my challenge was how to wear scarves wrapped up and necklaces at the same time. To my surprise, it can be done and I actually love the way that it looks. The key is the length. You don't want your necklace to be hidden by the scarf. I would suggest either choosing a super short or long necklace to pair with the scarf.

For this look, I decided upon a cozy, cream-colored scarf and long golden coin necklace. I can't get over how much I love how the golden coins dangle just below the scarf. It's very boho and I have a feeling that I'll be repeating this scarf-necklace combo quite a few times this season.

What do you guys think of scarves and necklaces together? Will you be trying this out?

Breaking into the Fashion Industry

October 2015

Hello! As you guys may know, as few weeks ago, I attended Philadelphia Fashion Week. I scored a front row seat next to Cassie Hepler, founder of Explore Philly, a Philadelphia-based website. She and I chatted throughout the show about the designs and towards the end of the show, she offered me a sort of internship position with Explore Philly in which I'll be attending fashion events and writing about them for her site (don't worry, I'll still be writing about events for this blog as well!) It feels like I'm breaking more into the fashion industry as well as the field of journalism and I couldn't be any happier about it.

Yesterday evening, I ventured out for my first assignment for Explore Philly: to attend the Naveda press preview and write an article about it. I grabbed my best friend, Bri, and we set off for a night of glamour. Keep an eye on Explore Philly for my article within the next week or so.

For a fashionable night out, I decided to stick with a color palette of primarily black. I slipped into a black circle skirt paired with a black duster cardigan. I left the top button undone on the cardigan to show off a peek of gray lace. I highlighted that pop of gray by styling a gray, Vintage Etienne Aigner clutch with the look. Black thigh-high, lace-up boots made a statement. Red lipstick and a couple pieces of jewelry pulled the look together.

Philadelphia Fashion Alliance Launch Event 10/11/15

Hello! Yesterday, I attended the launch of the Philadelphia Fashion Alliance held at the Art Alliance in Philadelphia. The event showcased seven Philadelphia fashion designers' work. Well-dressed fashion attendees mingled, sipping on mimosas while browsing through the designs.

A snapshot of the Senpai + Kohai presentation. The designers behind this collection, Melissa Choi and Pia Panaligan, both graduated from Philadelphia University a few years ago. Both designers were incredibly well-dressed and I thought it was pretty cool to see graduates from my school making such a major impact in the fashion industry.

This collection took my breath away. The use of interesting textures and prints contributed to a boho luxe vibe that I'm in love with. It's very free-spirited but in a refreshingly hip way.

The Victoria Wright Designs collection was another one of my favorites at the event. While browsing through the collection, I happened to start talking to the designer, Victoria Wright. She looked so incredibly charming in her own designs that at first, I mistook her for another one of the models. I loved hearing about her line and examining the incredible detail of her garments.

Vintage, feminine designs inspired her collection and I couldn't take my eyes off her black and white pieces. I especially loved her sheer skirts with floral detailing; they're so versatile!

I managed to snap a quick photo of Jovan O'Connor with her collection. Jovan O'Connor was another Philadelphia University graduate that was showing her designs at the event and I enjoyed chatting with her. The colors of her collection really drew me in; she had a variety of brighter pieces as well as more neutral colors. For her Spring/Summer 2016 collection, she was inspired by Brazil which can be seen in the colors chosen.

Philadelphia Fashion Week Vault Show 10/10/15

Hello! Last night, I had the pleasure of attending the VAULT show put together by Philadelphia Fashion Week. I attended as press and scored a front row seat at the show. The show was presented in a small intimate venue, the White Space at Crane Arts Old School. There were four designers who showed their collections: Ke Collection, Bishme Cromartie, Autumn Lin and Ayasa Afi.

Ke collection: This collection played around with masculine vs. feminine. There were a lot of different textures such as heavy woolens, tweed, lace, leather and tulle. All of the looks were very polished, like a refined businesswoman.

Bishme Cromartie: This collection featured vibrant pops of hot pink and blue against stark black and white prints. It almost reminded me of the fashion of the 80s.

Autumn Lin: Autumn Lin also showed her collection a few weeks ago at the Philly Fashion Week show I attended and I was happy to see her showing her designs again last night. I absolutely love her designs. Her designs have a very cutting edge, futuristic feeling to them. She experiments with 3-D silhouettes and how to use zippers as a work of art not just to serve the purpose of getting the garment on and off. With her use of sheer fabrics and stiffer fabrics, she also creates a contrast of hard and soft in her line. Her collection was definitely my favorite from last night.

Ayasa Afi: This collection was very light, very airy. Pale colors like pink and off white were particularly prominent in this collection. There was also an abundance of watercolor floral prints. The use of floral prints and pale colors contributed to an element of femininity. The femininity of the collection was further enhanced with silhouettes that showed off the female figure such as backless dresses and plunging necklaces.

Hello! When your dad leaves his old French Boy Scout jacket hanging in your closet, how can you resist the urge to "borrow" it?? I discovered that my dad left his old Boy Scout jacket hanging in my closet this past summer and have been looking forward to all the ways that I can style it as the weather gets cooler.

A couple of days ago, I decided to break this jacket out from my closet. Recently, I've found myself being drawn to more and more monochromatic looks so I slipped the olive-colored jacket on with an olive-colored romper. There's something so effortlessly stylish about monochromatic looks. It's almost like you're not really supposed to pair the same colors together but breaking that fashion rule creates looks that are Ã¼ber hip.

I accessorized with a statement ring and my new favorite pair of sunglasses. I slipped on neutral wedges and red lipstick to add my signature feminine touch to the look.

Fall/Winter 2015 Trend Report: Lace it Up

Nasty Gal Thigh High Boots

Hello! It seems as if every time I refresh my Instagram feed, I see yet another photo of a style guru in a laced up blouse or pair of laced up booties. And I absolutely love it. This season, clothing and shoes that lace up the front are taking the fashion industry by storm. Like other fall trends (such as bell sleeves and flare pants), this trend originates in the 70s. And like the other 70s fall trends, I'm falling hard for this style. In particular, I'm loving booties and blouses that lace up the front. However, I've noticed a few particularly rad laced up, suede skirts. Swoon!

Ever since I noticed this trend a few weeks ago, I've been dreaming of adding the trend to my wardrobe. When Nasty Gal sent me an email about their shoe sale last week, I kind of dismissed it because I figured I couldn't afford any of the shoes at the moment- even if they were on sale. However, I thought it couldn't hurt to look and started to browse through their selection of shoes on sale.

A few moments later, I spotted the thigh-high boots featured in the photo above. Originally, these babes retailed for $120 but were on sale for about $40 with shipping. And that's a deal that I can certainly afford! The shoes were still available in my size and I took that as a sign that I needed them in my life and added them to my shopping cart. They're now sold out and I'm so glad that I scooped them up when I did. The lace pattern, thigh-high style and trendy laced up front make them a refreshing update to my wardrobe.

I slipped them on as soon as I received them in the mail and am as much in love with them in person as online. The contrast between the sex appeal and boho vibe of the shoes is what really attracts me to them. I can't wait to see how many different ways I can style these boots this fall.

What do you guys think of the laced up trend? Are you going to try it out?

Rocksbox

October 2015
October 2015

Hello! You know how a certain item of clothing or a stylish accessory can make you feel like you're on the top of the world when you're wearing it? Well, I hadn't felt that way in a while but these golden sunglasses changed that. Recently, I received these sunglasses courtesy of Giant Vintage and I'm obsessed. My confidence level soars the second that I slip these sunglasses on; when I have these sunglasses on, I feel like a cooler, much more hip version of myself. These sunglasses retail for $25 here and I would say the $25 is well worth it.

I also took the chance to debut my jewelry that I received in my Rocksbox a couple days ago. For those of you who haven't heard of Rocksbox, it's a monthly jewelry subscription box. You sign up for $19/month and they send you three pieces of jewelry to wear for the month. When you return the jewelry, they send you other new jewelry to wear. Fall in love with one of the pieces that month? That's fine; you can purchase the item for a Rocksbox insider discount.

This is the first month that I have subscribed to Rocksbox and I'm in love with it. I received a dainty bracelet, X ring and druzy necklace. And I haven't taken any of the jewelry off yet. Interested in trying Rocksbox out? Well I have a deal for you: if you sign up with promo code toribff70 you can receive your first box free! Who could say no to trying out a couple great pieces of jewelry for a month for free?
