Free Spirited Floral

IMG_3629
IMG_3634

Hello! These photos are of one of my outfits from earlier this week. My busy schedule has been throwing off my blogging a little bit the past few weeks. Phew, I never realized how busy I really would be this summer; babysitting, working, interning & taking summer classes- what was I thinking?

For this look, I started with this free-spirited floral romper. This romper has been in my wardrobe for roughly a year now and I love it just as much as the first day that I wore it. I can't get over the vivid colors, quirky floral print and carefree style of the romper. Plus, the lightweight fabric and short length of the romper make it the perfect piece for unbearably hot summer days.

When choosing accessories, I played around with layering bohemian jewelry; I stacked a couple golden bracelets together and highlighted my golden flash tattoo as well as slipped on a golden coin necklace and small green stone necklace. I added a couple small pops of color with my olive-colored sunglasses and berry lipstick. Black studded sandals wrapped the look up.

Hope that you are enjoying your summer!

Too Hot to Handle

IMG_3495
IMG_3491

Hello! The weather here in Richmond has been too hot (and humid) to handle the past few days. For the look above, I threw on a short babydoll dress. The acid wash denim, babydoll fit and lightweight material make this dress the perfect summer go-to. I styled the dress with a pair of minimalist, heeled sandals, golden jewelry, red lipstick and a vintage clutch for a sophisticated, carefree summer look.

Ashby

IMG_3587

Hello! Days off are great because I can wear what I actually want to wear. No tie dye tee shirt, sneakers or bermuda khaki shorts for me (which is what I have to wear to work).

I took the opportunity to show off one of the newest additions to my wardrobe- this stylish, green top. I spotted this gem in Ashby while browsing Carytown earlier this week and knew that it had to be mine. The bold green color, 70's-inspired embroidery and peplum shape of the top drew me to it immediately. And for only $15? I couldn't resist it! I also picked up several accessories from Ashby on my shopping trip which I'm wearing in this look as well. I borrowed a pair of black, lace-trimmed shorts from my sister's wardrobe to style with the top.

For this look, I decided to go overboard with accessories and slipped on handfuls of necklaces, rings and bracelets. I love the bohemian feeling of the stones and jewels in my jewelry and adore the way all of the pieces complement each other. I also tried out a golden flash tattoo on my upper arm to play up the free-spirited vibe of the accessories. A cherry red lipstick, round sunglasses and wedges pulled the look together.

Boho Gypsy

IMG_3362
IMG_3359

Hello! These photos were taken of one of my outfits last week. I styled this look around my olive-colored romper. The eyelet texture, rich color and classic style of the romper draw me back to it time and time again. This piece has been in my wardrobe for several years now yet I never get sick of it (also, I'm pretty pleased that I still fit in the romper after so long).

For this outfit, I styled my black fringe kimono with the romper; I like the contrast between the shortness of the romper and the length of the kimono. The juxtaposition creates a look that immediately demands attention. I played up my long legs with a pair of wedges. I added boho detail to the look by throwing on a pair of round, hippie sunglasses and stacking a couple metallic coin necklaces together. I love the bohemian gypsy feeling that is captured with these necklaces and my messy, half-bun. Bold red lipstick and a vintage clutch pulled the look together.

Kay Adams Jewelry Internship

IMG_3438

Hello! This summer, I'm lucky enough to be interning (one day a week) at Anthill Antiques for Kay Adams. For those of you who aren't from Richmond or aren't familiar with Anthill Antiques/Kay Adams Jewelry, Anthill Antiques is the cutest, quirky shop specializing in vintage & antique accessories in Carytown. Anthill Antiques is run by Kay Adams and her mother, Judy. Kay Adams also designs and produces her own statement necklaces that she sells in the shop. Even though I've only interned two days in her shop so far, I can already tell that the experience that I gain this summer will be invaluable. So far, I've helped with visual merchandising of the jewelry, working with creating chains for necklaces and learning how the shop operates.

Oh and I helped Kay start her own Instagram page for the shop! Her Instagram page is going to showcase the interior of her shop, her store cat and the gorgeous necklaces she creates. She has an incredible selection of breathtaking necklaces that are comparable to pieces of art. The detail, the thought and the creativity that goes into each individual necklace is phenomenal. Check her designs out on Instagram @kayadamsjewelry and give her a follow.

For the look above, I styled one of her necklaces with my martini print dress. I borrowed this Kay Adams necklace from my mom and love the quirky flamingo and carefree summer feeling of the necklace. I styled the necklace with two smaller necklaces for an even bolder statement. To emphasize the pinks and greens in the Kay Adams necklace, I paired it with my pink, green & black vintage martini print dress. Round sunglasses and a vintage golden bracelet pulled the whole look together.

Pretty in Plaid

IMG_3225
IMG_3224

Hello! Recently, I've been sticking to my summer uniform which consists of a short, printed dress + wedges + stacks of jewelry. The look photographed above portrays the summer uniform perfectly. I started my look with a plaid shirtdress. While this dress may be seen as more of a dress for the fall, I think that the rich colors, short hemline and lightweight fabric permit this dress to be versatile enough to be worn in warmer weather as well. I accentuated the length of my legs with a pair of bohemian wedges. I accessorized with a pair of green sunglasses, green clutch and stacks of free-spirited, golden jewelry.

3 Swimsuits that will Keep you Cool this Summer

3 Swimsuits to Keep You Cool this Summer

Hello! As the beginning of the summer dawns upon us and more of my free time is spent by the river, my mind is focused more and more on summer fashion and more specifically on bathing suits. Inarguably, bathing suits are a summer essential; they will take you from playful days by the river to cool dips in the pool. Unfortunately, most of my bathing suits from last summer no longer fit and soon, I'll be buying new bathing suits. Pictured above are three of my favorite bathing suits; keep reading to find out why I think these are the coolest styles of bathing suits this season:

Option #1: Retro, high-waisted bikini. I love the retro and pin-up inspiration of high-waisted bikinis; they conjure up images of the beach in the 1950s.

Option #2: Sophisticated printed one-piece with cut-outs. This style of swimsuit is classy yet sexy at the same time. And you guys know that I can't say "no" to a good print!

Option #3: Playful printed one piece in a classic silhouette. Have fun this summer with a whimsical printed one-piece. Props for styling a pair of polka dot sunglasses with the suit or using quirky float with it like the lemon/orange slice floats above!

Richmond Heat

IMG_3279
IMG_3278

Hello! With temperatures already reaching 90+ degrees and a suffocating level of humidity, I'm beginning to question how I will survive the heat in Richmond this summer. With weather this hot, I keep reaching for the most light-weight dresses in my wardrobe in an attempt to keep as cool as possible. For this look, I pulled a floral dress out of my wardrobe. The lightweight cotton fabric, vibrant colors and quirky floral print make this the perfect summer go-to dress. I accentuated the colors in the dress with a swipe of berry lipstick. Several golden necklaces, a pair of round sunglasses and platform sandals completed the look.

The Kewl Shop

IMG_3168
IMG_3167-1

Hello! Have you guys heard of the Kewl Shop? The Kewl Shop sells trendy, fashionable apparel and shoes for women online. They specialize in bold, showstopping bandage dresses. The Kewl Shop recently reached out to me and offered to send me one of their dresses to review on my blog. While browsing through their tremendous selection of dresses, I was thoroughly impressed; they carry a wide assortment of bandage dresses that you would picture your favorite " It girl" wearing. Rich colors such as burnt orange and sky-blue and details such as cut-outs and contrast piping make these dresses stunners.

I selected the "Kewl Tassel Sleeveless Bandage Dress" to feature on my blog. The fiery orange color, bohemian fringe and cut-out detailing on the back of the dress immediately drew me to this dress. It retails for $149 HERE. I received the dress in a size large. When I received the dress, I was instantly impressed by the quality of the dress; the durable, sturdy fabric of the dress allows the dress to withstand countless nights out. And no worries about being able to see through the dress or worries about accidentally tearing it; the quality of this dress ensures that it was manufactured to last.

Overall, I'm very pleased with this dress- who could say no to a unique, stylish dress that is also very high-quality? If you are looking for a dress for your nights on the town this summer, I would recommend checking out the Kewl Shop's extensive selection of bandage dresses. And even better yet, use code FTM15 at checkout to receive 15% off your purchase (if you wanted to purchase the dress I'm wearing above, it would cost about $125 with the code here.)

For my look, I styled the dress with a pair of black platform heels, a leopard print crossbody bag and a classic golden necklace. This look would be ideal for a night out.

Hello Richmond

IMG_3165

Hello! I'm baaaaaaaack in Richmond and I'm so happy to be back. And while I'm happy to be back, I also predict that this summer in Richmond will prove to be the busiest period of my life so far. I'm juggling working at a country club, babysitting, interning and taking online courses this summer.

But I don't think that this summer is going to be busy in an unpleasant way. Partially this summer will be so busy because of my plans to graduate early. I'm no longer happy at Philadelphia University but because of several different factors, I cannot transfer schools. Instead, I'm putting extra pressure on myself so that I graduate in May 2016 instead of May 2017. One of the things that I need to do to insure my early graduation is take a couple summer courses this summer. I'm enrolled at J. Sarge to take an art history and ethics class online; I'm fairly confident that the courses won't be too hard and will be easy enough to handle.

Additionally, since this is my last summer as a college student (and I'll start my actual career in just a year!), I wanted to gain more experience in the fashion industry through a summer internship. Therefore, I'm interning for Kay Adams of Anthill Antiques one day a week this summer. I'm really looking forward to my internship and have a feeling that it will be one of my favorite parts of this summer. Watch out for more posts about my internship to come soon (I start my internship this coming Monday.)

To be able to attend my last year at Philadelphia University and attempt not to totally sink in student debt, I'm working at a Country Club as well as babysitting this summer to earn money. While these two jobs don't correlate with what I want to do after I graduate, they are jobs that I can succeed at and allow me to earn as much money as possible this summer.

So it'll be a busy summer! But one that I'm definitely looking forward to.

11 Tips to Amp Up Your Style this Summer

Outfit #1

Hello! The first day of summer technically is June 21st but gosh knows it already feels like summer. Scorching temperatures and not having class contribute to the "hello summer" mood I'm in. And summer always feels like the hardest season for me to dress well. Hot, humid weather prevents me from wearing the clothes (and layers) that I'm usually used to wearing. It can be very easy to fall in a fashion rut during the summer. It's tempting to just slip on the same shorts and plain top again and again. Because hey it's easy, right? And with it being so hot outside, it's typical to be drawn to easy options like a bee is drawn to honey. Well this summer, don't let yourself fall into that boring summer look rut! There are plenty of other easy alternatives to slipping on blah summer outfits. Let your denim shorts sit back in your wardrobe and follow these tips for hotter summer looks.

Tip #1: Play around with different textures. Lace, crochet and silky textures are all ideal for summer and add an element of interest to any look. Pick up a crochet top to throw on with your favorite pair of shorts or a lace kimono to pair with your favorite summer dresses or over a bathing suit for a river trip. Even better yet, play around with those textures by pairing them together like I did in the look above. I love the way that the crochet texture of the top, lace texture of the kimono and silky texture of the shorts all accentuate each other.

Tip #2: Add unexpected pops of color. Wearing a neutral-colored outfit? Throw on one piece (like the deep burgundy shoes in the look above) in an unexpected color to make a statement.

Tip #3: Layer statement pieces together. Amp up the intensity of your look by slipping on several statement pieces of jewelry together.

Tip #4: Borrow pieces from your friends' wardrobes. Suddenly planning outfits seems much easier when you have double the amount of clothes to style outfits from. You can bet that I'll be borrowing clothes from my sister's wardrobe all summer long!

Tip #5: Invest in a pair of wedges (or sandals if you're not a heels girl) that you'll wear all summer long. Pick a pair that will take you from shopping with a friend to nights on the town. Trust me, you won't regret it. These shoes will be the staple of your wardrobe this summer.

Outfit #2

Tip #6: Update pieces in your wardrobe by DIY-ing them to create a new look. Have a boring old tank top? Sew daisies on the top to create a fresh new tank top like the one in the outfit above. There are countless DIY ideas that you could use to update your wardrobe; I would recommend browsing Pinterest for ideas.

Tip #7: Play with prints. Have fun and try combining different prints for playful summer looks. I love how the two florals complement each other in the outfit above.

Tip #8: Rely less and less on black and experiment with more color. Use summer as an excuse to ditch the black in your wardrobe and try to incorporate more color into your wardrobe. I'm definitely a fan of black clothing but have been trying to wear more and more color this spring/summer season and am a fan of the results of relying less on black.

Outfit #3

Tip #9: Experiment with different silhouettes. Skorts, oversize tops, etc. Don't limit yourself to the same old, same old summer silhouettes of cropped tops and booty shorts.

Tip #10: Invest in a romper that you love. This romper will take you everywhere this summer. It can be dressed up to go out in or dressed down to go have lunch with a friend in or even worn as a bathing suit cover up.

Tip #11: Don't take your outfits too seriously. It is summer after all! Have fun with quirky, playful accessories such as bold yellow sunglasses or a pineapple clutch.

Pretty in Paisley

IMG_3123
IMG_3118
IMG_3122

Hello! How am I coping with the intense summer heat and humidity that we are experiencing so far this summer? Lots of short skirts/dresses and lightweight tops! And this look portrays that summer uniform perfectly. I grabbed my [short] white, textured circle skirt and threw on a sheer paisley top with it. I love the lightweight material, hippie print, rich purple color and lace detailing of the top. It's perfect for almost unbearably hot summer days. I boosted the look up with a pair of neutral navy wedges.

I accessorized with a simple vintage bracelet and a handful of silver vintage rings as well as my high school class ring (which I recently dug up from a box of old jewelry in my closet- I had totally forgotten about it!) I also slipped on a pair of classic olive green sunglasses that Giant Vintage Sunglasses recently sent me to feature on my blog; I'm in love with the deep olive color of the frames of these sunglasses. These are their "Camptown" sunglasses in olive green; they retail for $16 HERE

If you are looking to update your wardrobe with a couple new pairs of sunglasses this summer, I would definitely recommend checking out Giant Vintage Sunglasses. They offer an incredible (seemingly endless) supply of trendy, affordable sunglasses. Whatever kind of sunglasses you are looking for (heart shaped, cat-eye, classic, etc.), they are almost guaranteed to carry them and most sunglasses retail for under $20! Most of the sunglasses that I wear have been gifted to me by Giant Vintage Sunglasses and I can vouch that the quality of these sunglasses is pretty good as well.

Embracing Messy Hair

image
image
image

Hello! The summer heat is finally here and if you live on the east coast like I do then you know that an unpleasant humidity accompanies the summer heat. The summer heat and humidity are two of the biggest challenges I face when doing my hair. It gets frizzy as well as seemingly appears to get thicker; both traits make it near impossible to handle.

Additionally, this length of hair is the hardest hair length for me to handle; I prefer it a few inches shorter or a few inches longer. However, I'm trying to grow it out so as tempting as it is to just chop off a few inches for instant satisfaction, I know that I shouldn't cut it.

Throughout the past few days, I've spent way too much time doing my hair, trying to get everything right and in the end just wanting to throw my hairbrush and bobby pins all over the place. And well quite frankly, that's one of the worst ways to start the day. If you follow my twitter @ToriRadday, you probably saw my tweet that a "bad hair day = bad day."

After a particularly rough attempt to tame my hair this morning, I've decided to embrace messy hair. It takes less time, is easier and less stressful to just embrace messy hair instead of trying to fight with your hair. I'm going to try to use less heat on my hair this summer and spend less time worrying about what it looks like. Hey, riding in the car with windows down means that my hair is going to be messier anyways. So I urge you guys to do the same- embrace the breezy, undone hair look and worry less about what your hair looks like and more on making the most of your summer.

For this look, I borrowed a free-spirited elephant print top from my sister's wardrobe and paired it with a basic black circle skirt. I accentuated the bohemian feeling of the shirt with layers of golden jewelry, a vintage clutch, the perfect round sunglasses from Giant Vintage and a pair of hippie wedges. I just purchased these wedges yesterday and couldn't wait to style them. The textured strap, faux wooden heel and platform style of these wedges make them my ideal summer shoe. Even better yet, they only cost $14! I love Steve Madden shoes and have a feeling that this pair will be no different.

Bold Flatforms

IMG_2958
IMG_2957

Hello! Today, I took the chance to take photos with one of my best friends, Taisha, for the last time while I'm at school this semester. Like myself, Taisha is a second-year fashion merchandising student at Philadelphia University. We've taken photos together for my blog a few times and I can't even express how much I admire Taisha's sense of style. Taisha does an excellent job of combining bold trends with her unique sense of style for looks that always hit the mark. She's been featured on my blog here, here & here this year. Check out more of her looks on her Instagram @tmoniquee_

The first thing that I noticed today when I ran into Taisha was that we were both wearing bold flatforms. I guess stylish fashion merchandising students think alike? When discussing our footwear choice even further, we discovered that both pairs of our flatforms were made by Steve Madden (stylish & affordable!) I'm swooning over both pairs of flatforms; the bold style, minimalist shape, chunky platforms and neutral colors of the sandals make them one of the hottest style of shoes this summer.

To draw attention to my flatforms, I slipped a pair of maroon fox print socks on with them. Besides creating a quirky effect, I love how the color and print of my socks emphasize the burgundy color and bohemian, paisley print of my dress. I accessorized by pairing a gold & silver coin necklace together and grabbing a pair of round sunglasses. Red lipstick pulled the whole look together.
